India: Foreign student charges IIT teacher of sexual harassment

KANPUR: A foreign student who was taking her course in civil engineering under a foreign exchange programme at IIT here, complained of sexual harassment.

When the student informed her country's embassy the matter started moving around. She initially approached the institute's women cell for registering her complaint. When her voice was not heard she made a call to the embassy. It is then the institute's officials responded.

As is the news circulated, it was known action would be taken under the Supreme Court's guidelines. The probe into this matter has been initiated as a news report said.

The foreign studeñts carry on their respective courses at the institute either for one month or six months or 12 months or 24 months. They secure the certificate from their parent university.

On selection in a civil engineering course, a foreign student was admitted. She looked disturbed for the past several days. Upon other girls' questioning,  she told them about the matter. 

This institute's students also go to foreign countries for seeking education. Some say this unpleasant matter could sour academic relations!
