India: Two Naxal terrorists killed in encounter in Maha

Nagpur, Sep 15 (PTI) Two Naxals were killed in an encounter with police in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district on Sunday morning, a police official said.

The gun-battle took place in Narkasa forest area, located around 170 km from here, when commandos of C-60, a specialised anti-Naxal unit of Maharashtra police, were combing the area, he said.

India: About 50 people feared drowned in tourist boat capsize

Amaravati, Sep 15 (PTI) Several people were feared drowned when a tourist boat capsized in the swollen Godavari river in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday afternoon while over 10 passengers were said to have been rescued, police sources said.

The exact details of the mishap and the number of persons in the ill-fated boat were not immediately available.

Australian man found dead at Jaisalmer guest house in India

Jaipur, Sep 15 (PTI) A 45-year-old Australian citizen was found dead at a guest house in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district, police said on Sunday.

The guest house staff found Nocolas's body on Saturday and informed police. The body was then taken to a hospital, said Kiran Kang, Jaisalmer's Superintendent of Police.

He had checked into the guest house on Thursday, police said.

The Australian high commission in New Delhi has been informed about the incident.

Officials said the cause of the death will be known only after postmortem.

India: CPI(M) slams Shah's statement on Hindi

New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) Any attempt to impose one language will lead to disruption of the country's unity, the CPI(M) said on Sunday criticising Union Home Minister Amit Shah's comments on Hindi.

Shah's statement that "Hindi should be treated as the national language runs contrary to the spirit of the Indian Constitution and our country's linguistic diversity," the Left party said.

India: 4 Naxal terrorists arrested in Chhattisgarh's poll-bound Dantewada

Raipur, Sep 15 (PTI) Four Naxals were arrested on Sunday from separate places in poll-bound Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

Two of them were held from within Farspal police station limits while the others were caught in Geedam and Katekalyan, an official said.

Dantewada Assembly bypoll is scheduled for September 23 and the arrests came while the District Reserve Guard and Danteshwari Fighters, an all-woman anti-Naxal police unit, were carrying out a joint patrol, Dantewada Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallava told PTI.

India: Leakage of video a conspiracy: BJP leader Chinmayanand's rape victim's father

Shahjahanpur (UP), Sep 15 (PTI) The father of a law student, who accused BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand of raping her, on Sunday termed the leakage of the video footage given to the SIT by his daughter, as a "conspiracy" and said he would request the Supreme Court to order a probe into it.

"From where have the screenshots and videos come to the social media? The screenshots have been posted even on various social media platforms. These were given to the SIT by my daughter. This is a conspiracy," he said.

India: Stalin slams Centre for "autocratic imposition" of Hindi

Chennai, Sep 15 (PTI) The DMK president M K Stalin on Sunday accused the Centre of "autocratic imposition of Hindi" and underscored the need for unity in opposition ranks to take forward protest against the government on such issues.

Addressing an MDMK party event chaired by its leader Vaiko here, Stalin said Tamil was sidelined in the competitive examination conducted by the railways and postal department.

India: DAV College students demand union elections

Kanpur: Dayanand Anglo-Vedic Degree College students raised the demand for students' union elections before the principal but they indulged in a rampage after his denial. They not only set the furniture on fire but damaged properties. When they learnt of the police force entering into the college campus they fled away raising slogans.

Following the announcement of the union elections in another BND college, the DAV college students led by their two leaders also met the college principal Amit Srivastava on Saturday. He later moved out of the room.

India: BJP leader Chinmayanand case: rape victim questioned by SIT

Shahjahanpur (UP), Sep 14 (PTI) The special investigation team questioned the postgraduate student who has accused BJP leader Chinmayanand of rape and collected evidence from the bedroom of the former Union minister's home here, sources said on Saturday.

The woman, who was asked by the SIT to submit whatever evidence she had, Saturday said she has given a pen drive containing 43 videos to support her allegations.

India: 3-yr-old girl raped by cousin in UP

Baghpat (UP), Sep 14 (PTI) A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her cousin in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district, police said on Saturday.

The girl was playing with her friends when the 24-year-old man took her to a secluded spot and allegedly raped her on Friday, Superintendent of Police Pratap Gopendra Yadav said.

The accused left the child in a "very bad condition" and fled the village, they said, adding that the girl's family took her to a doctor who told them about the sexual assault.
