India: Girl raped, impregnated by man in J-K's Reasi

Jammu, May 16 (PTI) A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped and impregnated by a man in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district, officials said on Monday.

A person of Pouni tehsil lodged a complaint with the police on Saturday alleging that a man repeatedly raped her daughter who is two months pregnant, they said.

Jaipur, May 16 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of destroying the country's economy, which was "strengthened" by the former UPA government.

At a rally in Rajasthan's Banswara district, he also charged that the BJP and Prime Minister Modi want to create two Hindustans, with one for the rich and select two-three industrialists and the other of Dalits, farmers, the poor and underprivileged.

The Congress, he said, wants only one Hindustan.

India open to exporting wheat to needy nations despite ban

NEW DELHI (AP) — India on Sunday said it would keep a window open to export wheat to food-deficit countries at the government level despite restrictions announced two days earlier.

India’s Commerce Secretary B.V.R. Subrahmanyam told reporters the government will also allow private companies to meet previous commitments to export nearly 4.3 million tons of wheat until July. India exported 1 million tons of wheat in April.

India mainly exports wheat to neighboring countries like Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

New Delhi, May 13 (PTI) The Delhi High Court on Friday asked the Centre to examine a petition raising concerns over the decline in vulture population allegedly on account of the use of certain veterinary drugs, and asked it take measures to save the birds that are an important link in the food chain.

Bus Fire Kills Four, Injures 24 In Indian-Controlled Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, May 14 (NNN-PTI) – At least four pilgrims were killed and 24 others suffered burns yesterday, after a bus carrying them caught fire, in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The bus caught fire near Katra town, in Reasi district, about 224 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

“Today a bus bearing registration number JK14-1831, on the way from Katra to Jammu caught fire about one km from Katra. Four pilgrims were killed in the incident and 24 others were injured,” a police official said.

Ahead of the three-day 'Chintan Shivir' here, senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said the party will decide on alliances with those parties that subscribe to its ideology and are concerned over the "attack" on democracy and the Constitution and want to save them.

India: Sisodia urges Amit Shah to stop demolition drive in Delhi

New Delhi, May 13 (PTI) Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah urging him to stop the "destruction" ensuing in the national capital due to the anti-encroachment drive by the BJP-ruled municipal bodies.

In an online briefing, Sisodia slammed the "bulldozer politics" of the BJP and claimed that the civic bodies are planning to raze 63 lakh dwellings in the national capital.

India: 16-year-old girl raped at gunpoint in UP's Saharanpur

Saharanpur (UP), May 13 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped at gunpoint at a village here, police said on Friday.

The girl had gone to work in a farm along with a woman on Thursday when a youth dragged her aside and raped her, SP (City) Rajesh Kumar said quoting the complaint.

As the locals working in nearby fields started reaching the spot on hearing her shrieks, the youth fled.

The girl informed about the incident to her family members, after which a complaint was lodged.
