India: Swamy criticises EU delegation's visit to Kashmir

New Delhi, Oct 28 (PTI) BJP MP Subramanian Swamy on Monday attacked the Union government over a European Union delegation's visit to Jammu and Kashmir, saying its members will visit the region in their private capacity which, he claimed, is a "perversion of our national policy".

He demanded that the visit should be cancelled.

India: AAP accuses BJP of instigating people to burst crackers

New Delhi, Oct 28 (PTI) Accusing the BJP of instigating people to burst firecrakers on Diwali to increase air pollution in Delhi, the ruling AAP on Monday said that the saffron party has "a habit of" opposing everything that the Kejriwal government does.

But Delhi BJP leader Vijender Gupta hit back, saying the Aam Aadmi Party is making these claims to "distract" people from its failures to curb air pollution to a manageable level.

India: IIM(C) 17th in prestigious global management ranking

Kolkata, Oct 28 (PTI) Indian Institute of Management Calcutta has secured the 17th rank globally in the 'Financial Times Masters in Management Rankings 2019'.

The institute got the ranking for its 2-Year Masters in Business Administration (formerly Post Graduate Programme in Management), an IIM (C) statement said on Monday.

The position has been advanced by six ranks this year and the institute bagged the 1st place among the five Indian B-Schools listed in the rankings.

India: Teenage girl sexually abused for 2 years by five men

Kottayam, Oct 28 (PTI) A 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted for the past two years by five men, four of whom have been arrested, police said here on Monday.

Those nabbed in connection with the case have been identified as Devasia, Reji, Joby and Nagappan.

Another person, Benny, is absconding, they said.

The matter came to light when the traumatised girl was taken for counselling by her relatives.

Cases have been registered under theProtection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

India: 'Sadhvi' gang-raped in Bihar

Sheikhpura, Oct 28 (PTI) A 'Sadhvi' (holy woman) was gang-raped in Bihar's Sheikhpura district, police said on Monday.

According to SHO, Mahila Thana, Yashoda Devi, the incident took place late Sunday night near Phulchod village in the district while the 'Sadhvi' was on her way to her native village in Uttar Pradesh's Basti district.

The SHO said the woman had been staying at an ashram in Kakolat a tourist spot in Nawada district after renouncing the world.

India: Man arrested for rape bid on 6-year-old niece in UP

Banda (UP), Oct 28 (PTI) A 21-year-old man was arrested here for attempting to rape his six-year-old niece, police said on Monday.

According to circle officer of police Alok Mishra, the accused was in an inebriated state when he tried to rape his niece.

"On a complaint of the girl's mother, a case has been registered and the accused arrested. The girl has been sent for medical examination," the police officer said.

India: Police kills 3 Maoists in an alleged encounter in Kerala

Palakkad, Oct 28 (PTI) Three suspected Maoists, including a woman, were killed on Monday near Attapady in Palakkad district during combing operations, police said.

A top police official told PTI that personnel of the Thunderbolt squad retaliated when shots were fired at them.

"The patrolling team was combing the deep forest area in Palakkad district. It was then the Maoists fired at them.

India: Ruling PDA appeals GoI for early resolution of Naga issue

Kohima, Oct 28 (PTI) The ruling People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) on Monday reiterated its appeal for an early resolution of the decades-old Naga issue, inclusive, honourable and acceptable to the people.

The PDA comprises of 21 Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) MLAs, 12 of the BJP and an Independent legislator in the 60-member Nagaland house.

PDA restated its stand during a coordination meeting of its legislators along with senior party functionaries here.

India: 3-year-old boy stuck in TN borwell dead, body pulled out

Tiruchirappalli (TN) Oct 29 (PTI) Nearly 80 hours of struggle to rescue a three-year-old boy stuck in a discarded borewell near here failed with the death of the child and retrieving of his decomposed body from a depth of 88-feet in the early hours of Tuesday.

Commissioner of Revenue Administration J Radhakrishnan said those posted near the borewell noticed foul smell around 10.30 pm on Monday following which medical personnel and teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) assessed the situation.

Free bus ride scheme for women begins in Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 29 (PTI) The free of cost travel scheme for women in Delhi public buses began on Tuesday with Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia saying it will ensure their safety and increase their role in the national capital's economy.

Women will be given pink tickets in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses to avail the free-ride scheme, which started on Bhai Dhooj.

The Delhi government will reimburse transporters based on the number of pink tickets issued.
