India: Woman raped in UP's Banda

Banda (UP), Nov 4 (PTI) A man allegedly raped a 40-year-old woman working in an agricultural field in Naraini area of Uttar Pradesh's Banda district, police said on Monday.

Raju Patel raped the woman on Saturday, they said.

An FIR was lodged on Sunday night by the victim's family and police have launched a hunt to arrest the accused.

Delhi HC orders judicial inquiry into clash between police and lawyers at Tis Hazari court

New Delhi, Nov 3 (PTI) The Delhi High Court on Sunday ordered judicial inquiry by one of its retired judges into the clash between lawyers and police at Tis Hazari court complex here.

A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar, which sat on Sunday after taking suo motu (on its own) cognisance of media reports of the incident, said that former high court judge Justice (retd) S P Garg would hold a judicial inquiry into the matter.

Delhi: BCD announces compensation for lawyers injured in clash with police at Tis Hazari

New Delhi, Nov 3 (PTI) A day after a clash broke out between lawyers and police at Tis Hazari court here, the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) on Sunday announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for two lawyers who are currently in ICU and Rs 50,000 for the injured advocates.

K C Mittal, the chairman of Bar Council of Delhi, said a judicial inquiry should be ordered immediately in the incident.

India: First container cargo to Assam via Indo-Bangla water route

Kolkata, Nov 3 (PTI) The first ever containerised cargo movement via Indo-Bangladesh protocol route and Brahmaputra river will start from West Bengal's Haldia on Monday, an official said.

The vessel MV Maheshwari, carrying 53 containers of petrochemicals, edible oil and beverage will take 12-15 days to reach the IWAI terminal at Pandu in Assam's Guwahati, the official said.

India: Air pollution: Delhi govt issues health advisory

New Delhi, Nov 3 (PTI) The Delhi government issued a health advisory on Sunday in view of the severe air pollution in the city and asked people to avoid outdoor activities as much as possible, especially during the morning and late evening hours.

In a statement, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said the air pollution had reached the severe level and asked people to follow the dos and don'ts as mentioned in the advisory.

India: Physically challenged woman sexually abused

Bhawanipatna, Nov 3 (PTI) A physically challenged woman was allegedly sexually abused and impregnated by the son of the owner of a house where she was working as a maid in Odishas Kalahandi district, police said on Sunday.

The deaf and dumb woman, aged about 30 years and working as a maid in the house of a person of Badaldeipur village has alleged that she is 7-month pregnant due to sexual abuse by the son of the house owner against her will, the police said.

Delhi: Electric vehicles exempted from odd-even scheme

New Delhi, Nov 3 (PTI) The Delhi government on Sunday decided to exempt electric vehicles from the odd-even road rationing scheme starting from November 4.

Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot in a statement said that the number of registered electric vehicles in the city was less than 1,000 and they are not likely to cause any congestion.

"It has, therefore, been decided to exempt the electric vehicles from the odd-even restrictions," he said.

Bangladesh beat India by seven wickets in T20 cricket series opener

India: Huge cache of explosive materials recovered in Jharkhand

Dumka, Nov 4 (PTI) A huge cache of explosive materials has been recovered from an under-construction house in Jharkhand's Dumka district, police said on Monday.

On a tip-off, a police team led by Dumka Sub- Divisional Police Officer Pujyaprakash searched the under- construction house at Seherpur village under Shikaripara police station and recovered 100 kg ammonium nitrate and 795 pieces of gelatine sticks on Sunday, Superintendent of Police, Y S Ramesh said here.
