Kashmir: PSA against 26 people in JK revoked

Srinagar, Jan 10 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir home department has revoked the stringent Public Safety Act against 26 people who are lodged in various jails in the newly-carved out union territory, officials said on Friday.

This is seen as an attempt by the union territory administration to ease the situation in the region.

These people were picked up and booked under the PSA after the Centre's decision on August 5 last year to revoke special status of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcate it into two union territories.

India: Fishermen take out boat rally against CAA

Kozhikode, Jan 10 (PTI): Hundreds of fishermen staged a novel protest from nearby Chaliyam against the Citizenship Amendment Act, sailing their boats with the national flag tied at the bows of the vessels and shouting slogans against the CAA.

Named 'water march,' the boat rally was held from Chaliyam Jankar Jetty to Feroke puthiyapaalam (New Bridge) and back on Friday evening.

The video of the unique protest has now gone viral on the social media.

Kochi, Jan 10 (PTI) Kerala has attracted Rs 1 lakh crore investment proposals going by entrepreneur feedback at the Global Investors Meet, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Friday at the conclusion of the event here held with the aim of enhancing ease of doing business in the state.

Overall, the two-day ASCEND 2020 event received 164 investment proposals, Vijayan said.

The Kerala Infrastructure Management Ltd has promised to invest Rs 8,110 crores, while the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority Rs 66,900 crore, he said.

New Delhi, Jan 10 (PTI) A Delhi court Friday put Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra on trial for allegedly defaming Zee Media Corporation Ltd.

Additional Chief Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Vishal Pahuja framed the charges against the politician under section 499 and 500 (related to criminal defamation) of Indian Penal Code.

Buxar (Bihar), Jan 9 (PTI) A 13-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three residents of her village, who then dumped her in a badly bruised condition on a heap of straw, a police officer said on Thursday.

According to Buxar Superintendent of Police Upendranath Verma, the girl was waylaid by the three accused on her way home from a coaching class on Wednesday at Harpur village in Itarhi police station area of the district.

India: Murli Manohar Joshi seeks JNU VC's ouster

New Delhi, Jan 9 (PTI) Former HRD minister and senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi on Thursday called for the removal of JNU Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar, saying it is "shocking" that he is adamant on not implementing a government proposal to resolve fee-hike crisis in the university.

"Reports are that the HRD ministry had twice advised the JNU VC to implement certain reasonable and working formula for resolving the issue of enhanced fees in JNU. He was also advised to reach out to teachers and students.

India: Naxal terrorists torch six mini trucks in C'garh

Bijapur, Jan 9 (PTI) A group of Naxals allegedly torched at least six mini trucks engaged in transportation of sand in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday, police said.

The incident took place near Cherpal river in Gangaloor police station area, a police official here said.

"Some suspected ultras reached the spot and set ablaze six mini trucks parked along the river before fleeing from the spot," he said.

India: Name one freedom fighter from your family: Nath to Modi

Bhopal, Jan 9 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Thursday sought to know if anybody from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's family was a freedom fighter.

Modi's party did not have anything to do with the freedom struggle, yet they were preaching nationalism to others, he said, speaking at a training camp of the Congress- affiliated Seva Dal here.

"They are lecturing the Congress and Seva Dal on nationalism. I always ask Modi-ji, just tell me the name of one freedom fighter from your party, or for that matter among your relatives," he said.
