Indian premier greets Turkish president on Eid al-Adha

11 July 2022; MEMO: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha, Anadolu Agency reported.

"On the occasion of the holy festival of Eid al-Adha, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, through a personal letter to the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, extended on his own behalf & People of India, warm greetings to the President & People of Turkey," the Indian Embassy in Türkiye tweeted on Sunday.

India to surpass China as most populous country in 2023, U.N. report says

NEW DELHI, July 11 (Reuters) - India is set to surpass China as the world's most populous country in 2023, with each counting more than 1.4 billion residents this year, a United Nations report said on Monday, warning that high fertility would challenge economic growth.

The world's population, estimated to reach 8 billion by Nov. 15 this year, could grow to 8.5 billion in 2030, and 10.4 billion in 2100, as the pace of mortality slows, said the report released on World Population Day.

New coronavirus mutant raises concerns in India and beyond

Scientists say the variant – called BA.2.75 – may be able to spread rapidly and get around immunity from vaccines and previous infection. It’s unclear whether it could cause more serious disease than other omicron variants, including the globally prominent BA.5.

India: Suspended police inspector accused of rape

Hyderabad, Jul 11 (PTI) A suspended Circle Inspector (CI), who was booked here for allegedly raping a woman, was taken into custody, police said.

A special police team of Rachakonda Police Commissionerate has taken into custody on July 10, Inspector K Nageshwar Rao, who is involved in a case registered against him under relevant sections of IPC and Arms Act, the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate said in a release.

He is being questioned, police said.

India projected to surpass China as world's most populous country during 2023: UN report

United Nations, Jul 11 (PTI) India is projected to surpass China as the world's most populous country next year, according to a report by the United Nations on Monday which said that the world population is forecast to reach eight billion by mid-November 2022.

The World Population Prospects 2022 by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Population Division, said that the global population is projected to reach eight billion on November 15, 2022.

India: Three die due to inhaling poisonous gas in Kanpur's Bilhaur

Kanpur: Three people died in a painful accident in the Bilhaur police station area of ​​Kanpur.

Among them, 4 people including two brothers came down to save the buffalo that fell into the well.

India Reports Over 18,257 New COVID-19 Cases

NEW DELHI, Jul 10 (NNN-PTI) – India reported as many as 18,257 new COVID-19 cases during the past 24 hours, bringing the total tally to 43,622,651, data released by the health ministry showed today.

A total of 432,777 COVID-19 tests were conducted across the country in the past 24 hours, added the ministry. Besides, 42 deaths due to the pandemic since yesterday morning, took the total death toll to 525,428.

The number of active cases in the country rose to 128,690, an increase of 3,662 during the past 24 hours.
