India: Shah Faesal booked under PSA

Srinagar, Feb 15 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir administration has booked former IAS officer-turned-politician Shah Faesal under the controversial Public Safety Act, official sources said on Saturday.

Faesal, who has been under detention after scrapping of Jammu and Kashmir's special status, was booked under the PSA on Friday night, according to the sources.

India: 4-year-old girl raped in Haryana's Panchkula

Chandigarh, Feb 15 (PTI) A four-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a school bus driver in Haryana's Panchkula district, police said on Saturday.

The incident occurred in the bus in Pinjore on Friday, an officer said.

The girl has been admitted to a hospital. Efforts are on to nab the accused, the police said.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, police said.

India: HC quashes defamation cases against two dailies

Chennai, Feb 15 (PTI) The Madras High Court has quashed the criminal defamation cases filed by the Tamil Nadu government against a leading English Daily and a Tamil newspaper for publishing an interview of BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on late J Jayalalithaa, in 2014.

Justice M Dhandapani had recently quashed the government orders issued in 2014, for prosecuting the publisher of a Tamil daily and Resident Editor of an English newspaper for publishing the interview of Swamy, in which he had made a mention of his letter to the Prime Minister.

New Delhi, Feb 14 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday remembered the 40 CRPF personnel killed in the Pulwama attack last year and asked who benefitted the most from the attack and what is the outcome of the inquiry into it.

Gandhi asked who in the BJP government had been held accountable for the security lapses that allowed the attack.

Kashmir: Dal Lake in Kashmir to get eco-sensitive zone tag soon

Jammu, Feb 14 (PTI) The Dal Lake and its surrounding areas in Srinagar will soon be declared an eco-sensitive zone, officials said on Friday.

The famous lake has shrunk to less than half its original size with its capacity down to 40 per cent due to pollution and encroachment, they said.

"The Committee of Experts (CoE) on Dal and Nageen lakes shall submit the final proposal to the Housing and Urban Development Department (HUDD) by 20th of February," a senior official said.

India: Jeweller shot inside shop during daylight robbery in UP

Noida (UP), Feb 13 (PTI) In a daylight robbery, three armed men barged into a jewellery shop in the city on Thursday and decamped with valuables after injuring the shop owner with gunshots, police said.

The incident took place around 12.45 pm and the accused had come to the shop in the posh Sector 12, under Sector 24 police station, riding on two motorcycles, the police said.

Jaipur, Feb 13 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday alleged that leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party were instigating a civil war in the country.

Replying to a debate on Motion of Thanks on the governor's speech in the assembly, the chief minister claimed that the saffron party was trying to weaken democracy.
