EU leaders express unity in dealing with migrant flows after visiting Greek-Turkish border

ATHENS, March 4 (NNN-Xinhua) — Leaders of European Union (EU) expressed their support for Greece and determination for a common European response to the refugee, migrant challenge after a visit to the Greek-Turkish land border.

UN accuses Russia, Syria, Kurdish militias of committing war crimes

03 Mar 2020; MEMO: A UN report issued by the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria has accused Russia, the Syrian regime and Kurdish militias of committing war crimes in Syria.

A member of the UN investigation panel, Hanny Megally, explained that areas controlled by Kurdish militias in Syria witnessed violations of civilians’ rights, including those of children.

Erdogan threatens Europe with 'millions' of refugees

Istanbul, Mar 3 (AFP/PTI) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned on Monday that "millions" of migrants would soon head for Europe, drawing accusations from EU leaders that he is trying to pressure them into backing his incursions into Syria.

Turkey gave the green light to refugees and migrants on Friday to leave for the European Union and thousands have since massed at the Greek border, triggering fears of an influx like that which poisoned European politics in 2015.

India: 3 arrested for 'goli maro...' slogan in Kolkata

Kolkata, Mar 2 (PTI) Three BJP "supporters" have been arrested for raising provocative slogan -- "desh ke gaddaro ko, goli maro ..." (shoot the traitors) -- while heading for Union Home Minister Amit Shah's rally in the city on Sunday, a senior Kolkata Police official said.

They were produced in a city court on Monday which sent two of them -- Pankaj Prasad and Surendra Kumar Tewary -- to police custody for three days, while Dhruva Basu was granted bail on grounds of age and ill health, he said.

India: Two baby girls lose their fathers in Meghalaya anti-CAA violence

Shillong, Mar 2 (PTI) Two baby girls, one of them just four-month-old, have lost their fathers in the violence between tribal and non-tribal groups over implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.

The four-month-old's father, Uphas Uddin, was killed in the early hours of Sunday by three unidentified assailants who broke into his home at Pyrkan village in Meghalayas East Khasi Hills district and stabbed him.

Greece treats migrant flows as national security issue as hundreds reach its islands

MYTILENE (Greece), March 3 (NNN-Xinhua) — Greece has adopted a tougher stance and is treating the migration challenge as a national security issue, Interior Minister Takis Theodorikakos said.

The Greek official was referring to thousands of people gathered at the country’s land border with Turkey in the past few days and hundreds still crossing the Aegean Sea on dinghies.

Palestine Slams Israeli Elections As Being Defined By “Settlement, Annexation, Apartheid”

RAMALLAH, Palestine, Mar 3 (NNN-WAFA) – Saeb Erekat, secretary general of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO), slammed the Israeli elections as being defined by “settlement, annexation, and apartheid.”

Erekat made his comment, after the initial results showed the Israeli right-wing party, led by Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, won a majority in the elections that were held for the third time in a year.

“Netanyahu decided that the continuation of the occupation and the conflict will bring Israel development and prosperity,” Erekat said on his Twitter account.
