Israeli rights group calls on Israel to stop punishing measures against Gaza

29 Aug 2020; MEMO: An Israeli rights group on Thursday called for Israeli occupation authorities to immediately stop the punishing measures against the besieged Gaza Strip and to allow the entry of fuel, commodities and essential equipment needed to fight COVID-19.

India: BJP not converting India into Hindu state: Subramanian Swamy

New Delhi, Aug 27 (PTI) BJP MP Subramanian Swamy on Thursday said the party is not converting India into a Hindu state and the Constitution also forbids it, while asserting that it will remain in power till its Hindutva ideology remains intact.

Claiming that the Congress formed governments in the past by uniting minorities and dividing Hindus, Swamy said politically, Hindus should be united as a community by sinking their differences.

It’s US against most of UN council on Iran sanctions

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The United States and most of the rest of the U.N. Security Council dug in their heels Thursday on diametrically opposed positions over the restoration of international sanctions on Iran.

In increasingly intense rhetorical terms, U.S. officials insisted they had acted legitimately in triggering a so-called “snapback” mechanism that would re-impose all U.N. sanctions Iran next month. They said the re-imposition of sanctions is a done deal and nothing can stop it.

Israel arrests 2 Hamas MPs in West Bank

27 Aug 2020; MEMO: Israeli occupation forces yesterday arrested two Palestinian MPs from the Palestinian Resistance Movement Hamas’ parliamentarian bloc in occupied West Bank, Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) reported.

According to eyewitnesses, the PPS said that the Israeli occupation forces raided the West Bank city of Ramallah and used live, rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the Palestinians who had come out against the Israeli assault.

Saudi dissident sues Twitter for hacking that led to killing, torture of activists

27 Aug 2020; MEMO: A US-based Saudi opposition activist and co-founder of the Institute for Gulf Affairs in Washington DC, Ali Al- Ahmed said yesterday that he will sue Twitter over a 2016 hack that led to the killing and torture of many activists who had reported human rights violations in Saudi Arabia, the Business Insider reported.

India: UP HC denies bail to anti-CAA activist Osama

Allahabad, Aug 26 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court has rejected the bail plea of an anti-CAA activist arrested on charges of being a participant of an unlawful assembly which made hate speeches and seditious statements during a protest against the last year's changes in the citizenship law.

While denying bail to Azamgarh resident Osama on Tuesday, Justice J J Munir directed the lower court to complete the trial within six months.

Australian terrorist Brenton gets life wthout parole for Christchurch mosque killings

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AP) — The white supremacist who slaughtered 51 worshippers at two New Zealand mosques was sentenced Thursday to life in prison without the possibility of parole, the first time the maximum available sentence has been imposed.

Judge Cameron Mander said the crimes committed by 29-year-old Australian Brenton Harrison Tarrant were so wicked that a lifetime in jail could not begin to atone for them. He said they had caused enormous loss and hurt and stemmed from a warped and malignant ideology.

Israel orders Palestinian village demolish its only road

26 Aug 2020; MEMO: Israeli occupation authorities have ordered a road in the village of Kaisan, east of the occupied West Bank city of Bethlehem, to be razed, Al-Watan Voice reported yesterday.

Deputy-Mayor of Kisan village, Ahmed Ghazal, said that the Israel occupation authorities are planning to close the road which connects more than ten homes to the village.

Ghazal said that this road was paved in 2007 to serve the villagers, who have been subject to Israeli harassment for decades.
