Despite risks, Trump says he’s taking hydroxychloroquine

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said he is taking a malaria drug to protect against the coronavirus, despite warnings from his own government that it should only be administered for COVID-19 in a hospital or research setting due to potentially fatal side effects.

Trump told reporters Monday he has been taking the drug, hydroxychloroquine, and a zinc supplement daily “for about a week and a half now.”

The statement asks that human rights lawyer Wang Quanchang be allowed to move freely including joining his family in Beijing now that he has been released from unfair detention.

Wang was detained as part of a campaign against over 300 lawyers and human rights activists in July 2015.

Riyazuddin, whose son was born on Friday night, said he named his son after the disease to create awareness about coronavirus.

"In present times, the entire world is battling the menace of coronavirus. Naming my son Corona will send out the message to the people to protect themselves from the disease and stay alert, he told reporters on Saturday.

Egypt billionaire threatens suicide if coronavirus curfew continues

In an interview with local television channel Al-Hadath, Sawiris said “let me tell you something, I will commit suicide if they extend the [curfew] period.”

Panama to restrict movement by gender during virus quarantine

PANAMA CITY, March 31 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The government of Panama announced strict quarantine measures that separate citizens by gender in an effort to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.

From Wednesday, men and women will only be able to leave their homes for two hours at a time, and on different days.

Until now, quarantine regulations were not based on gender.

Men will be able to go to the supermarket or the pharmacy on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and women will be allowed out on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

India: People consume cow urine in Kolkata as coronavirus cure

Kolkata, Mar 16 (PTI) A cow urine consumption programme was organised in north Kolkata on Monday out of the belief that it will protect people from the coronavirus or cure them in case they have already been infected.

A group of men organised a cow-worship programme at a cowshed at the Jorasanko area and consumed cups of cow urine.

"We believe that consuming cow urine would further strengthen our immunity and protect us from the coronavirus," one of the organisers said.

Pope Francis falls ill a day after praying for coronavirus sufferers

Nigeria: Five arrested by police for falsely claiming to have contracted Coronavirus

Five Abuja residents – four men and a woman – have been reportedly arrested and paraded by the police in the Federal Capital Territory for invading the Wuse General Hospital with false claims of having contracted Coronavirus.
