ADEN, May 18 (NNN-SABA) – Yemen’s pro-government coast guard forces, confirmed on Sunday that, a British vessel came under an attempted piracy attack in the Gulf of Aden.

Captain Nasser Awlaki, with the Yemeni Coast Guard forces, confirmed that, “a British vessel was subjected to an attempt of piracy attack (80 miles) from the nearest land point, off the country’s southern coast.”

He said, “The ship was subjected to an attempted piracy attack in the Gulf of Aden, offshore of Yemen’s port of Mukalla, east of the country.”

13 May 2020; MEMO: United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) yesterday announced that the civil war in Yemen has “substantially” deteriorated the country’s development.

“Yemen’s war pushed development back 21 years,” UNDP said on Twitter, adding that it the war “is disastrous in fighting communicable diseases like #COVID_19”, in reference to the coronavirus which has brought the global economy to its knees and forced many countries to impose nationwide lockdowns.

13 May 2020; MEMO: Forces loyal to the internationally recognised Yemeni government yesterday took back control of a military camp run by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Abyan Governorate, south of the country.

A government source who preferred not to be named said pro-government forces took back control of the Haidrat El-Sidr camp after violent confrontations with the STC militiamen in Abyan.

ADEN (Reuters) - Yemeni authorities declared Aden, interim seat of the Saudi-backed government, an “infested” city on Monday after the number of coronavirus cases there jumped to 35, with four deaths.

A five-year war has shattered Yemen’s health system, pushed millions to the brink of famine and divided the country between the internationally recognised government and the Houthi group that ousted it from power in the capital, Sanaa, in late 2014.

SANAA, May 7 (NNN-SABA) – The health authorities in Yemen’s Houthi-held capital, Sanaa, said on Wednesday that, they would build a 3,000-bed field hospital in Sanaa, given the potential spread of COVID-19, the Houthi-run al-Masirah television reported.

3 May 2020; MEMO: A joint force of the Yemeni government and Saudi Arabian-led Arab coalition began Saturday to take control of Socotra Island’s provincial center of Hadibu.

Socotra governor’s Information Secretary Muhammad Abdullah al-Socotri told Anadolu Agency that in line with an agreement to end military tension in Socotra reached Friday, the force has started its duty for the city’s security.

SANAA, May 1 (Xinhua) -- More than 110,000 suspected cases of cholera have been recorded in Yemen since the beginning of 2020, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of the Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said on Friday.

The cases were recorded in 290 of Yemen's 333 districts since January, the OCHA said in a statement on Twitter, warning that the number of cases could increase in the rainy season, which began in April and would last until August.

ADEN, Apr 30 (NNN-SABA) – Yemen’s Southern Transitional Council (STC) declared a three-day 24-hour curfew, in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country’s southern port city of Aden.

Responding to five confirmed cases of COVID-19, the STC that’s controlling Aden and the neighbouring southern cities, announced a series of measures to curb the spread of the disease in the main cities.
