Mass job terminations hit hundreds of Yemenis in Saudi Arabia

ADEN, Aug 17 (Reuters) - Abdulrahman Tayeb, a Yemeni doctor, was shocked when his hospital in southern Saudi Arabia told him his contract would not be renewed, leaving him with a difficult choice: go home to a nation at war or try to find work in another country.

He is not alone. Hundreds of medical staff, academics and other professionals in the kingdom's southern region bordering Yemen have in recent weeks been told they are being let go, several Yemenis told Reuters.

Houthi Rebels Say They Shoot Down “Spy” Drone In Central Yemen

SANAA, Aug 15 (NNN-YPA) – Yemen’s Houthi rebels said, they shot down a “U.S.-made spy drone” belonging to the Saudi-led coalition, while it was hovering over their positions, in the central province of Marib yesterday.

“Our forces shot down the spy drone over Medghal district,” Houthi-run al-Masirah TV quoted the Houthi militia spokesman, Yehya Sarea, as saying.

Houthis ready to swap Hamas prisoners in Saudi with Saudi officers in Yemen

10 Aug 2021; MEMO: Yemen's Houthis announced yesterday that they are ready to swap Hamas prisoners being held in Saudi jails with Saudi officers in Yemen, Anadolu reported.

This came during a speech delivered by the head of Houthi group, Abdel-Malik Al-Houthi, to commemorate the start of the Islamic New Year.

Reported by Saba news agency, Al-Houthi described the Saudi sentences against Palestinians who he said had been "kidnapped" and imprisoned in the kingdom's jails as "oppressive".

45 Houthi rebels killed in airstrikes, clashes in Yemen's Marib: military sources

SANAA, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- At least 45 Houthi rebels were killed in multiple airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition and in ground clashes with the Yemeni government army in Yemen's central province of Marib in the last 24 hours, two military sources said on Saturday.

"In the western district of Sirwah, the airstrikes targeted a rebel makeshift operational room, killing at least 12," one of the sources in Marib told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

UN: 53% of displaced Yemenis are children

27 July 2021; MEMO: Fifty-three per cent of those displaced in Yemen are children, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced yesterday.

The humanitarian organisation explained that Yemeni refugees are struggling "even more when being forced to flee their homes."

"In #Yemen, 53% of those displaced by the ongoing conflict are children," the UNHCR said on Twitter, adding that in spite of this, "they always find a way to be happy".

Costly and critical: the battle for a key Yemeni city

Houthis ready to exchange all prisoners with Yemen government

05 July 2021; MEMO: The Houthis are ready to exchange all prisoners with the Yemeni government, the group's Al-Masirah TV reported the head of the Prisoner Affairs Committee saying yesterday.

According to the channel, Abdul Qader Al-Murtada made the remarks during his meeting with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Peter Maurer, in Sanaa.

Fighting between separatist brigades kills two in Yemen's Aden -sources

ADEN, June 24 (Reuters) - Clashes between brigades of the main southern separatist movement in Yemen killed two fighters and wounded 15 people, including civilians, in the port city of Aden, security sources said on Thursday.

Aden is the interim seat of Yemen's Saudi-backed government and has seen rising tensions between the government and the Southern Transitional Council (STC) over control of the city and wider south. The Houthi movement holds most of the north.

US spy plane downed in Yemen, Houthis claim

21 June 2021; MEMO: The Houthis yesterday shot down a "US spy plane" in the central Marib region of Yemen, the group's military spokesman claimed.

Brigadier General Yahya Saree said on Twitter: "Air Defenses shot down a U.S. spy plane type of (Scan Eagle) with a surface-to-air missile while carrying out hostilities in the skies of Al-Mushajah area of Sarwah district of Marib governorate."
