India: NRC will be implemented in WB : Kailash Vijayvargiya

Kolkata, Sep 25 (PTI) BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya Wednesday said that NRC will be implemented in West Bengal and not a single Hindu will have to leave the country.

Without naming the TMC, Vijayvargiya, who is BJP's Bengal minder, said certain political parties and politicians are trying to instill fear among the general people over NRC by spreading canards.

India: Rajeev Kumar's anticipatory bail plea rejected

Kolkata, Sep 21 (PTI) The Alipore District and Sessions court on Saturday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar, who is evading CBI summons in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam case.

Kumar had filed the bail plea on Friday, a day after a city court had said that the CBI did not need a warrant to arrest him in the Saradha case.

Kumar, who is currently the ADG of the CID, had failed to get a relief from the Barasat district and sessions court on his anticipatory bail application in the case.

Dengue vaccination in India from next year: ICMR

Kolkata, Sep 16 (PTI) Dengue vaccination will be introduced in India early next year on a demonstration basis in areas where the prevalence is high, a senior official of the Indian Council of Medical Research said here on Monday.

A serosurvey (a test of blood serum from a group of individuals) in this connection has been done recently in more than 15 states including West Bengal, and the report was published in the medical journal, Lancet Global Health, the official said.

India: Police commissioner Rajeev Kumar fails to appear before CBI

New Delhi, Sep 17 (PTI) Former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar failed to appear before the CBI on Tuesday morning in connection with the Saradha ponzi scam case, increasing the possibility of his arrest by the agency during the day, sources said.

They said Kumar did not appear for questioning twice in spite of CBI notices after the Kolkata High Court withdrew the protection given to him from arrest on Friday.

The agency had given him notice to appear at 10 am but he failed to turn up, they said.

India: BJP workers injured in clashes with police

Kolkata, Sep 11 (PTI) Several BJP activists were injured in clashes with police in the city on Wednesday during a rally against hike in power tariff in West Bengal, party sources said.

The BJP president Amit Shah and the state unit president Dilip Ghosh, who is in Delhi in connection with an organisational meeting, have been informed of the incident, the sources said.

Shah has asked the state leadership to submit to him the details about the incident, they said.

India: Class 4 student raped by vice-principal & class teacher

Dhanbad, Sep 9 (PTI) A class 4 student of a school in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district was allegedly raped by two school teachers including the vice-principal in the sickroom of the institution, police said on Monday.

An FIR was registered at Katras police station against the two teachers of the Topchanchhi-based school after the girl accused them of raping her in the sickroom of the institution a month ago, the police said.

India: TMC will not allow implementation of NRC in WB : Mamata

Kolkata, Sep 6 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said the TMC government in the state will not allow implementation of the NRC in the state.

The implementation of the NRC as nothing but a political vendetta of the BJP-led central government. she told the Assembly.

We will never let BJP implement the National Register of Citizens in West Bengal, she said at the Assembly during a discussion on the motion on NRC under Rule 185.

India: Centre delaying payments for rural job scheme: Mamata

Kolkata, Sep 4 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday accused the Centre of delaying payments for the 100-day rural job scheme and restricting works under the programme.

She also claimed the state was ranked on the top in work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA), against all odds.

India: TMC to hold mass protests against NRC in WB

Kolkata, Sep 2 (PTI) Trinamool Congress leadership Monday decided to hold mass protests across West Bengal from this week opposing NRC in neighbouring Assam, party sources said.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's residence Monday afternoon.

It was decided that the mass protests would be held on September 7-8 against the National Register of Citizens and the divisive politics of BJP, the sources said.

India: Shocked to see 1 lakh Gorkha people excluded from NRC: Mamata

Kolkata, Sep 1 (PTI) Iterating that the Centre must ensure no genuine Indians are left out of the NRC, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said she was "shocked" to find out that one lakh people of the Gorkha community have been excluded from the list.

The TMC supremo insisted that "justice should be meted out to all Indian brothers and sisters".
