Beef cultivated from cow cells is kosher, Israel's Chief Rabbi rules

20 Jan 2023; MEMO: Israel's Chief Rabbi has given a kosher stamp of approval this week to a company looking to sell steak grown from cow cells – while effectively taking the animal itself out of the equation, Reuters reports.

Cultivated meat, grown from animal cells in a lab or manufacturing plant, has been getting a lot of attention as a way to side-step the environmental toll of the meat industry and address concerns over animal welfare.

Oman to build the first spaceport in the Middle East

18 Jan 2023; MEMO: Oman is planning to build the region's first space rocket launch centre this year, reports The National. The Etlaq Space Launch Complex will be based in the port town of Duqm, with the three-year construction project overseen by the Sultanate's National Aerospace Services Company (Nascom).

The space rocket launch platform will be used to promote scientific research and to promote international collaboration in the space sector.

Turkey's 1st unmanned fighter jet ready for its first flight

05 Dec 2022; MEMO: Turkiye announced that its unmanned fighter jet would soon perform its maiden flight after a take-off test, where it lifted off the ground for a short duration of time, local Turkish media reports.

According to the report, the National Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle System (MIUS), named "Kızılelma", completed its first runway run and autonomous taxiing test last month at an air base in north-western Tekirdag province.

Russia agrees to help Morocco build nuclear plant

Sweden: Nobel Prize for 3 chemists who made molecules ‘click’

STOCKHOLM (AP) — Three scientists were jointly awarded this year’s Nobel Prize in chemistry on Wednesday for developing a way of “snapping molecules together” that can be used to design better medicines, including ones that target diseases such as cancer more precisely.

Americans Carolyn R. Bertozzi and K. Barry Sharpless, and Danish scientist Morten Meldal were cited for their work on click chemistry and bioorthogonal reactions, which are used to make cancer drugs, map DNA and create materials that are tailored to a specific purpose.

China to help UAE land first rover on moon

19 Sep 2022; MEMO: China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a memorandum of understanding, through which China will help the UAE land its first rover on the moon.

The agreement, signed on Friday, between the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) and the China National Space Administration (CNSA) for a future moon exploration mission.

Iran says developed drone designed to hit Israel's Tel Aviv, Haifa

12 Sep 2022; MEMO: A top Iranian military Commander said Iran has developed a long-range drone that is designed specifically to target the Israeli cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Brigadier General Kiomars Heidari, the Commander of the Iranian army's ground forces, made the remarks in a program broadcast on State TV Sunday night, amid heightened tensions between Iran and Israel.
