Afghans return to Taliban rule as Pakistan moves to expel 1.7 million

KARACHI, Pakistan, Oct 31 (Reuters) - As the clock ticked down to the Nov. 1 deadline Pakistan set for undocumented migrants to leave the country, Muhammad Rahim boarded a bus from Karachi to the Afghan border.

"We'd live here our whole life if they didn't send us back," said the 35-year-old Afghan national, who was born in Pakistan, married a Pakistani woman and raised his Pakistan-born children in the port city - but has no Pakistani identity documents.

10 Terrorists Arrested In Pakistan’s Punjab

ISLAMABAD, Oct 29 (NNN-APP) – Police in Pakistan’s east Punjab province, arrested 10 terrorists, including a commander of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the counter-terrorism department (CTD) of police, said.

The arrests were made when the CTD launched separate operations across the province, by acting on intelligence reports regarding the presence of the terrorists, the CTD said in a statement, released yesterday.

Policeman killed in attack in NW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- One policeman was killed when some unknown militants stormed a police station in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to police.

The incident happened in Dera Ismail Khan district of the province late Saturday night, the district's police said in a statement.

When the heavily armed militant group launched the assault on the building, there were approximately eight to 10 policemen inside who responded with maximum force to repel the attack, said the statement.

Pakistan: War crimes enough evidence to impose sanctions on Israel: Say experts

LAHORE, Oct 20 (APP): Lawmakers and human rights (HR) activists told the international community on Friday that damning war crimes were enough evidence to impose economic and defence sanctions on Israel for unleashing the reign of terror against innocent Palestinians.

Talking to APP, Special Assistant on Human Rights Mushaal Hussein Mullick said that war crimes and genocide were taking place in the Palestinian territory, regretting that nobody was punishing Israel for its crimes. She said the perpetrators of war crimes should be prosecuted.

Pakistan conducts flight test of Ababeel missile: army

ISLAMABAD, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan conducted a successful flight test of the Ababeel surface-to-surface medium-range ballistic missile, the army said on Wednesday.

The test flight was aimed at re-validating various designs, technical parameters, and performance evaluation of different subsystems of the weapon system, according to the statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan Army.

6 terrorists, soldier killed in clash with security forces in NW Pakistan: military

ISLAMABAD, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- At least six terrorists and a soldier were killed on Saturday during a clash between security forces and terrorists in North Waziristan district of Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the military said.

The security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in the Mir Ali area of the district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan Army, said in a statement on Saturday night.

Pakistan: Powerful earthquake shakes west Afghanistan a week after devastating quakes hit same region

ISLAMABAD (AP) — A powerful 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck western Afghanistan on Sunday, just over a week after strong quakes and aftershocks killed thousands of people and flattened entire villages in the same province.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the latest quake’s epicenter was about 34 kilometers (21 miles) outside Herat, the provincial capital, and eight kilometers (five miles) below the surface.

Pakistan: Peace in region to remain elusive till Kashmir dispute resolution: PM

ISLAMABAD, Oct 12 (APP): Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Thursday calling the Kashmir dispute the root cause of tension in South Asia, said peace in the region would remain elusive till the resolution of the issue.

The prime minister in a meeting with OIC Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Jammu and Kashmir Yousef M. Al Dobeay, said Pakistan was committed to a just and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions.

He welcomed the visit of the OIC delegation to Pakistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

12 Killed, 11 Injured In Road Accident In Pakistan’s Sindh

ISLAMABAD, Oct 12 (NNN-APP) – At least 12 people were killed and 11 others injured last night, in a road accident in the Khairpur district of Pakistan’s southern Sindh province, an official said.

Deputy Commissioner of the district, Ahmed Fawad Shah, told the media that, a passenger van and a car collided with each other near the Babarloi Bypass area of Khairpur, leaving seven people dead on the spot, and 16 others injured.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and injured to a nearby hospital.
