Pakistan: PM to jointly co-chair COP27 roundtable conference in Egypt next month

ISLAMABAD, Oct 10 (APP): As an acknowledgment of the proactive leadership and the global efforts of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on the climate change action plan, the United Nations Climate Change Conference – COP27, has announced to hand him over the vice-chairmanship of the conference which would be jointly chaired by the prime minister along with the Egyptian president and the Norwegian prime minister.

Drive for climate compensation grows after Pakistan’s floods

DADU, Pakistan (AP) — Every part of Rajul Noor’s life has been wrecked by this summer’s massive monsoon-driven floods. The 12-year-old girl’s family home is destroyed, as is the school that she loved. The friends she used to walk to school and play with are scattered, finding refuge elsewhere.

“Our whole world is underwater, and nobody has helped us,” she said, speaking in the tent where she, her parents and four siblings now live in Dadu district in Pakistan’s Sindh province.

Pakistan welcomes UNGA’s resolution over reconstruction efforts: PM

ISLAMABAD, Oct 8 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said that Pakistan welcomed the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of a resolution, supporting its reconstruction efforts in the flood-affected areas.

On his Twitter handle, the prime minister stressed that the world should respond vigorously to the UN revised aid appeal and provide access to climate finance and debt relief to Pakistan.

These actions were critical at this stage, he added.

Pakistan Spent Nearly 450 Million USD For Flood Relief, Assistance: President

UN hikes flash appeal to $816mn to support flood affected people of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Oct 4 (APP): The United Nations has upscaled its humanitarian appeal for the flood affected people of Pakistan to $816 million from previous $160 million assistance, considering a multitude of rehabilitation and health -related issues, cropping up in the post flood situation.

The revised appeal was made for Pakistan on the basis of updated on ground need assessment of the flood situation in the country. The revised ‘2022 Pakistan Floods Response Plan’ (FRP) was shared with UN member states and humanitarian organizations in Geneva.

China keen on importing donkeys, dogs from Pakistan: Officials

Islamabad, Oct 4 (PTI) China has shown interest in importing donkeys and dogs from Pakistan, officials have told a parliamentary committee as the cash-strapped country is trying to overcome a major economic crisis.

During a briefing on imports and exports on Monday between the officials of the Ministry of Commerce and Senate Standing Committee, one of its members, Dinesh Kumar said that China has expressed interest in importing donkeys as well as dogs from Pakistan, Geo News reported.

Afghanistan: Death toll in last week’s Kabul school blast climbs to 52

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Last week’s suicide bombing at a Kabul education center killed as many as 52 people, more than twice the death toll acknowledged by Taliban officials, according to a tally compiled by The Associated Press on Monday.

Dozens more were wounded in Friday’s blast, making it one of the bloodiest attacks since the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan more than a year ago. There was no claim of responsibility, but Islamic State group extremists have carried out a series of attacks against Taliban targets and ethnic minorities.

Pakistan: PM says rise of China as global economic power, a source of stability

ISLAMABAD, Oct 01 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said that the peaceful rise of China as the second largest economy and paramount global power was a source of stability in a perpetually changing world.

On the National Day of China, the prime minister extended the heartiest greetings to President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and the people of China.

On his Twitter handle, the prime minister said that China offered a promise of hope to the developing world, beset by multiple crises relating to climate, finance, food and energy.
