China positive about providing further development assistance to Nepal: Shrestha

Kathmandu Jul 2 (PTI) China is positive towards providing further development assistance to Nepal, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha said on Sunday.

Talking to reporters here, Shrestha said he held extensive discussions with the Chinese leaders focusing on strengthening bilateral relations, promoting trade, investment and economic development.

Shrestha said he found Chinese officials positive towards assisting Nepal in its development endeavours.

Nepal: Himalaya Airlines Resumed Kathmandu-Beijing Direct Flights

KATHMANDU, Jun 25 (NNN-XINHUA) – The H9665 flight, operated by Himalaya Airlines, took off from Kathmandu yesterday morning and landed in Beijing about four hours later, marking the resumption of direct flights between the Nepali and Chinese capitals, after a hiatus of three years.

The return H9666 flight came back to Kathmandu on the same day, as the Kathmandu-based airline is operating a round trip every Saturday for now.

U.S. mountaineer climbs rare Everest 'triple crown' as death toll reaches 12

KATHMANDU, May 26 (Reuters) - A renowned U.S. mountain guide has achieved the rare Mount Everest region "triple crown" of climbing the Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse peaks in one season, a hiking firm said on Friday, as the season's death toll on the world's highest mountain hit 12.

Garrett Madison, 44, climbed Lhotse, the world’s fourth tallest peak at 8,516 metres (27,939 feet) on Thursday, a day after he made his 13th ascent of Everest, at 8,849 metre (29,032 feet), said Ishwari Paudel of the Himalayan Guides company, which is helping Madison with logistics.

Nepal Army Team Atop Mt Qomolangma To Collect Waste

KATHMANDU, May 15 (NNN-XINHUA) – A Nepal Army team summited Mount (Mt.) Qomolangma this morning, in order to collect waste, discarded by climbers on the world’s tallest peak.

Ten members of the team, led by Lieutenant Col Kishor Adhikari, including five Sherpa climbing guides, reached the top of the mountain at 10:05 a.m. local time.

“Ten of the 13-member team have conquered the peak. They will descend collecting the waste dumped en route to the mountain peak,” Nepal Army spokesman, Brig Gen Krishna Prasad Bhandari, told Xinhua.

Indian climber who fell into deep Annapurna crevasse rescued

KATHMANDU, Nepal (AP) — An Indian climber who fell into a 300-meter (980-foot) crevasse on Mount Annapurna on Monday was rescued Thursday but his condition is unknown, an expedition organizer in Nepal’s capital said.

Several rescue attempts were made after Anurag Maloo fell on the world’s 10th highest mountain. When he was finally rescued, he was flown to a hospital in the resort town of Pokhara, Thaneswar Guragai of Kathmandu-based Seven Summit Treks said.

He was being treated at the hospital, but his condition was still unknown.

Chinese embassy distributes Spring Festival kits to overseas nationals in Nepal

KATHMANDU, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Embassy in Nepal hosted a Spring Festival kits distribution ceremony on Tuesday for overseas Chinese ahead of the Chinese Lunar New Year.

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song handed out Spring Festival kits to representatives of overseas Chinese nationals and students in Kathmandu, which contain local and Chinese foods, as well as Spring Festival couplets, and the Chinese character "Fu" meaning "Good Fortune" or "Blessing."

A pilot couple killed in air crashes in Nepal - 16 years apart

KATHMANDU, Jan 16 (Reuters) - In 2010, Anju Khatiwada joined Nepal's Yeti Airlines, following in the footsteps of her husband, a pilot who had died in a crash four years earlier when a small passenger plane he was flying for the domestic carrier went down minutes before landing.

On Sunday, Khatiwada, 44, was the co-pilot on a Yeti Airlines flight from Kathmandu that crashed as it approached the city of Pokhara, killing at least 68 people in the Himalayan nation's deadliest plane accident in three decades.

No survivors have been found so far among the 72 people on board.
