Nepali, Chinese entrepreneurs discuss promotion of Chinese investment in Nepal

KATHMANDU, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Nepali and Chinese entrepreneurs discussed on Monday at a forum the promotion of Chinese investment in the Himalayan country through joint ventures.

A delegation of Chinese entrepreneurs led by China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and members of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), a grouping of medium and large scale industries in Nepal, held business to business meeting about the promotion of Chinese investment in Nepal through joint ventures.

23 killed in Nepal bus accident

Kathmandu, Dec 22; PTI:  A bus carrying college students and their teachers back from an educational trip veered off a mountainous road and plunged into a ravine in Nepal, killing 23 people and injuring 14 others.

The fatal crash occurred on Friday when the bus was returning from Kapurkot in Salyan district.

According to the District Police Office, Dang, there were 37 persons —34 students, two teachers and a diver, on the ill-fated bus, which drove off the road and fell some 700 metres down near Ramri village, about 400 kilometres west of the capital Kathmandu.

Belt and Road Initiative helps transform economy of partnering countries: Nepali minister

KATHMANDU, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Nepali Finance Minister Yubaraj Khatiwada on Monday expressed his belief that the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative would help transform the economy of those partnering countries including Nepal.

The minister made the remarks here during a two-day international conference on the Belt and Road Initiative in South Asia and Nepal.

Khatiwada said the initiative created win-win situation for those countries.

Nepal launches Made-in-China electric buses

KATHMANDU, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Nepal is approaching an electric future by launching the Made-in-China electric buses for the first time in the country.

Amid a special function organized in Lalitpur on Tuesday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the battery-operated buses, which have been developed by the Chinese company BYD.

The formation of electric bus fleet has been regarded as a major milestone for the South Asian country for moving towards a green economy.

Key Madhesi party threatens to withdraw support to PM Oli's govt in Nepal

Kathmandu, Oct 9 (PTI) The Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal, a key Madhesi party which has been demanding amendments to Nepal's Constitution, has threatened to withdraw its support to Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli-led government.

The RJP-N leaders, who presented a memorandum to Prime Minister Oli on Monday, warned that if the government failed to address their demands, the party would withdraw its support to his government after Diwali.

Nepal decides not to join BIMSTEC military drill in India next week

KATHMANDU, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Nepal will not join the first ever joint military drill among the armies of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) members, to be hosted by India next week, an advisor to the prime minister said here on Saturday.

Kundan Aryal, press advisor to Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, told Xinhua that Nepal will not to join the joint military drill to be organized in Pune of the western Indian State of Maharastra on Sept. 10-16.

Investment doubles in Nepal in 2017-18 fiscal

KATHMANDU, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Industrial investment more than doubled in Nepal in the last fiscal year 2017-18 that concluded in mid-July, the Department of Industry (DoI) said on Saturday.

Investors registered 496 industries at the DoI with the committed investment of 350.58 billion Nepali rupees (3.18 billion U.S. dollars) in the last fiscal, DoI data showed.
