11 killed, 15 injured in Myanmar's highway crashes in February

YANGON, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Eleven people were killed and 15 others injured in traffic accidents on Myanmar's Yangon-Mandalay highway in February this year, the Nay Pyi Taw Expressway Traffic Police Force said on Monday.

The figure was up compared to that registered in January when eight people were killed and 13 others injured in the traffic accidents occurred on the same highway, official data showed.

A total of 12 road crashes occurred on the busiest highway in Myanmar in February, causing damage of 14.15 million kyats (over 6,738 U.S. dollars), it added.

Five Killed In Car Crash In Southern Myanmar

YANGON, Jan 28 (NNN-MNA) – Five people were killed when a passenger bus collided with a probox car last night, in southern Myanmar, according to a traffic policeman.

The accident occurred in Ye township of Mon State, at around 6:40 p.m. local time, yesterday.

“All the five people onboard the probox car died on the spot. The passenger bus was only damaged,” he said, adding that, no one onboard the passenger bus were wounded or killed.

The probox car was badly damaged, he added.

Myanmar Held First Travel Fair Since COVID-19 Outbreak

YANGON, Jan 28 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar kicked off a three-day travel fair in its commercial city of Yangon yesterday, for the first time since the outbreak of COVID-19.

“We are re-organising the travel fair this month, after we couldn’t hold any event like this in 2020, 2021 and 2022,” Naung Naung Han, president of the Union of Myanmar Travel Association, said.

The travel association had also tried to organise a travel exhibition in Sept last year, but it was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic and other reasons, he added.

China hands over additional 3 mln doses of COVID-19 vaccine to Myanmar

YANGON, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- China on Thursday handed over an additional 3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to Myanmar, according to a statement from the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar.

Speaking at the handover ceremony in Yangon, the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Chen Hai said China and Myanmar have a long history of "Paukphaw" (fraternal) friendship. It rapidly delivered the new batch of COVID-19 vaccine to Myanmar upon a request from the Myanmar side for the vaccine.

China will continue to deepen cooperation with Myanmar in various fields including health, he added.

Myanmar: Cattle Exhibition And Competition Held In Yangon

YANGON, Jan 1 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar’s Yangon Region government, organised a cattle exhibition and competition here yesterday, to boost its livestock production.

A total of 119 cows and 76 goats were competing in the two-day weekend event, in Yangon’s Mingaladon township, according to the Yangon Region Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department.

Livestock feeds, livestock medicines and livestock products were also showcased and sold at about 15 stalls and shops during the exhibition.

Myanmar to issue commemorative gold coins to mark 75th anniversary of Independence Day

YANGON, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's central bank will issue commemorative gold coins to mark the 75th anniversary of Independence Day that falls on Jan. 4, 2023, the state-run Myanmar News Agency reported on Thursday.

The two gold coins weigh one tical (16.329 gm) and 0.5 tical (8.164 gm) respectively, the report said.

The one-tical coin is 26 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness, while the half-tical coin is 22 mm in diameter and 1.5 mm in thickness, it said.

Nearly One million stimulant tablets seized in central Myanmar

YANGON, Dec 13 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar’s authorities seized 0.95 million stimulant tablets worth over 1.4 billion kyats (0.66 million U.S. dollars), in the central region of Mandalay, the state-run media, citing police sources, reported today.

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotic police intercepted a Toyota Hiace vehicle, near Kywe Dat Son village in Thazi township of Mandalay region, at around 10:30 a.m. local time on Dec 9, and confiscated the drugs.

Investigation showed that the stimulant tablets were to be transported to Yangon region, from southern Shan state, it said.

Wintering birds arrive in Myanmar's largest freshwater lake

YANGON, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 12,000 wintering migratory birds of 29 species flocked to the Indawgyi Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Myanmar, during October and November this year, local authorities said.

"The population of wintering birds here this year is still low, compared to over 17,000 birds in the same period last year," U Maung Win, administrator of the Indawgyi Wildlife Sanctuary, told Xinhua on Tuesday.

Myanmar reports 19 new COVID-19 cases

YANGON, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar confirmed 19 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the tally to 633,137, according to the Ministry of Health on Friday.

The ministry said in a statement that health authorities tested 6,883 people for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, and the daily positivity rate was 0.28 percent.

The death toll from COVID-19 in the country remained unchanged at 19,488 on Friday as no new deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, the ministry said.

Myanmar Announced National Day Amnesty For 5,774 Prisoners

YANGON, Nov 17 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar’s State Administration Council, granted amnesty to 5,774 prisoners today, to mark its National Day, according to the state-run television channel, MRTV.

According to the council’s separate orders, former ministers, artistes and four foreign nationals, were also granted amnesty on National Day.

The prisoners are remitted sentences to mark the country’s National Day, and on humanitarian ground, as well as, in view of relations between the respective countries and Myanmar, it said.
