Palestine: Family members of Palestinian murdered by Israeli settler arrested by Shin Bet

27 June 2022; MEMO: Three family members of the 27-year-old Palestinian, who was killed at the hands of an Israeli settler in Salfit in the occupied West Bank, were arrested yesterday morning by Israel's Shin Bet intelligence agency.

Jordan: 10 dead, 251 injured in toxic gas leak at Aqaba port

27 June 2022; MEMO: Ten people died and 251 were injured in a toxic gas leak from a storage tank at Jordan's Aqaba port, state television reported on Monday, as authorities called on residents to shut windows and stay indoors, Reuters reports.

The leak came after a tank filled with toxic gas fell while being transported, state news agency, Petra, said, citing the spokesperson of the Public Security Directorate.

Over 70 Percent Of Egyptian New Capital’s First Phase Completed: Cabinet

CAIRO, Jun 27 (NNN-MENA) – The Egyptian cabinet announced yesterday that, more than 70 percent of the structural works, in the first stage of the New Administrative Capital (NAC), have been completed.

According to the New Administrative Capital Company, the state-run company that oversees the construction of the new city, more than 70 percent of the NAC’s first phase, which spans an area of about 40,000 acres, was finalised.

One Dead, Several Injured After Building Collapsed In N. Lebanon

BEIRUT, Jun 27 (NNN-NNA) – An infant died and several other people were injured yesterday, after a three-storey building collapsed in the Qibbeh district of Tripoli, northern Lebanon.

The cause of the building’s collapse remains unknown, and rescuers have been sent to the scene to save and evacuate the injured.

Lebanese Prime Minister-designate, Najib Mikati, has asked local hospitals to treat the wounded in a timely manner.

Iran Welcomes Reopening Of Embassies In Tehran, Riyadh

TEHRAN, Jun 27 (NNN-IRNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, said last night that, Iran welcomes the reopening of the Iranian and Saudi Arabian embassies in Riyadh and Tehran.

Iran only seeks to promote the region’s interests, Amir-Abdollahian said here, in a meeting with visiting Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa al-Kadhimi, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website.

Go-slow Turkey unlikely to reach Nordics deal at NATO meet

ANKARA, June 27 (Reuters) - A NATO summit this week is unlikely to see a breakthrough to overcome Turkey's opposition to Sweden and Finland's membership bids as Ankara takes an unrushed approach to negotiations, according to Turkish officials and Western diplomats.

In response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Sweden and Finland applied for NATO membership in what would be a historic enlargement of the Western defence pact. But Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan surprised allies by opposing it in May over what he called the Nordic countries' support for terrorist groups.

Iran's president says foreign powers' presence in Mideast causing problems

TEHRAN, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi reiterated on Sunday that the foreign presence in the region not only fails to help resolve any issue but also causes problems.

Raisi made the remarks at a joint press conference with visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi in Tehran, Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

Referring to Yemen's crisis, Raisi said Iran believes continuing the war in the Arab state is futile and will only lead to the suffering and pain of its people.

Qatar likely to host Iran-US nuclear deal talks

26 June 2022; MEMO: Qatar is most likely to host the upcoming talks between Iran and the US, mediated by the European Union, to close the remaining gaps in efforts to salvage the 2015 nuclear deal.

Nour News, affiliated with Iran's top security body, said in a statement posted on Twitter on Sunday that Doha has a "better chance" of hosting the forthcoming talks than other Gulf countries, given its "ongoing efforts to resume talks on lifting sanctions."

Top Turkish, US diplomats discuss bilateral ties, NATO enlargement

26 June 2022; MEMO: Turkiye's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed a range of issues over the phone on Saturday, including bilateral relations and the enlargement of NATO, Anadolu Agency reports.

Sweden and Finland formally applied to join NATO last month, a decision spurred by Russia's war on Ukraine that began on February 24.
