India: Salman Khan challenges summons issued by Mumbai court

Mumbai, Apr 5 (PTI) Actor Salman Khan has approached the Bombay High Court challenging the process (summons) issued to him by a lower court in connection with the alleged misbehaviour with a journalist in 2019.

Salman's plea will be heard by a single bench of Justice Revati Mohite Dere on Tuesday.

India: Nawab Malik's jail custody extended till April 18

Mumbai, Apr 4 (PTI) A special court here on Monday extended the judicial custody of Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik till April 18 in connection with a money laundering case.

Malik (62) was arrested on February 23 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money-laundering probe linked to the activities of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim and his aides.

The NCP leader was in ED's custody till March 7 and was later sent to jail under judicial custody till March 21 which was later extended till April 4.

India: ED attaches Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut's linked assets

New Delhi, Apr 5 (PTI) The ED has attached eight land parcels in Alibaug and a flat in Mumbai's Dadar suburb linked to Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut and his family under the anti-money laundering law, officials said on Tuesday.

The federal probe agency issued a provisional attachment under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to freeze the land parcels (plots) and flat, they said.

The attachment is linked to a money laundering probe linked to a Rs 1,034 crore worth land 'scam' related to the re-development of a 'chawl' in Mumbai.

India: Police seize 37 swords from courier firm's office in Maha

Aurangabad, Mar 30 (PTI) Police seized 37 swords and a dagger from a courier company's office in Maharashtra's Aurangabad city on Wednesday, an official said.

"We have come to know that these swords were brought from Amritsar and Jalandhar in Punjab. Seven people from Aurangabad and Jalna had placed orders for them. No one has been arrested so far," Deputy Commissioner of Police Ujwala Vankar told reporters.

The diesel price in Aurangabad is just a few paise short of Rs 100 per litre, while the petrol rate has crossed Rs 115 per litre.

India: Man held for killing mother in Palghar

Palghar, Mar 22 (PTI) Police on Tuesday arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly killing his mother over a petty issue here in Maharashtra, an official said.

The accused, Rupesh Gangani, was a habitual drinker and used to frequently quarrel with his over 70-year-old mother, the official from Tarapur police station said.

During one such tiff on Monday evening at their house in Tarapur, the man allegedly attacked his mother with a wooden log following which she died, he said.

India: 70 pc of Waqf land encroached in Maha

Mumbai, Mar 22 (PTI) At least 70 per cent of land owned by the Waqf board in Maharashtra has been encroached upon, state minister Nawab Malik has said.

Shiv Sena MLC Manisha Kayande raised the matter in the Legislative Council on Tuesday, asking if the Waqf land had been encroached upon in connivance with officials of the revenue department.

It is partially true. Some 70 per cent Waqf land is under encroachment," Malik said in a written reply.

India Rs slumps 26 paise to 76.10 against USD in early trade

India: Man buries alive his toddler daughter in Maha

Nagpur, Mar 12 (PTI) A 27-year-old man allegedly killed one of his three daughters, a one-year-old, by burying her alive in a pit in an agricultural field in Washim district of Maharashtra following fight with his wife, police said on Saturday.

The accused Suresh Ghughe was arrested on Saturday, a day after the incident in Wadi-Wakad village in Risod tehsil.
