India: Mumbai logs highest-ever 15,166 COVID cases in a day

Mumbai, Jan 5 (PTI) Mumbai reported 15,166 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, its highest-ever daily count and up 4,306 from a day ago, while three more patients succumbed to the infection, the city civic body said.

With these additions, the city's overall coronavirus count jumped to 8,33,628, while the death toll increased to 16,384, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said in a bulletin.

India: Woman arrested from U'khand in Bulli Bai app row

Rudrapur, Jan 4 (PTI) Maharashtra Police on Tuesday arrested a woman from Udham Singh Nagar district here in connection with the controversial Bulli Bai' mobile application which had put up pictures of Muslim women for "auction".

The woman is being taken to Mumbai on transit remand after being produced in a local court, SP (City), Udham Singh Nagar district, Mamta Bohra, said.

Nashik, Dec 30 (PTI) Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, who was seen without a mask at an event here on Thursday, claimed he was following the prime minister's 'example'.

India: 45 booked for encroaching on Waqf land in Maha

Jalna, Dec 29 (PTI) Forty-five people have been booked for allegedly encroaching upon, transferring and selling Waqf land in Jalna in Maharashtra, police said on Wednesday.

A Partur police station official said these people had usurped a 30 acre plot belonging to Lal Masjid here and had carried out illegal transactions, besides making homes and shops there.

The case was taken on the complaint of Waqf official Mohammad Latifuddin, he added.

India: Maha minister Varsha Gaikwad tests coronavirus positive

Mumbai, Dec 28 (PTI) Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad on Tuesday said she has tested positive for coronavirus.

The minister, who contracted the viral infection last year also, had been attending the ongoing winter session of the state Legislature and replied to various questions pertaining to her ministry in the state Legislative Council on Monday.

India: Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan, Amrita Arora Covid +ve

Mumbai, Dec 13 (PTI) Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan on Monday said she has tested positive for COVID-19, after sources in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said both she and her actor-friend Amrita Arora had contracted the virus.

Kareena confirmed her diagnosis on her Instagram Story, adding that she hopes to be "up and about soon".

"I have tested positive for Covid. I immediately isolated myself while following all medical protocols. I request anyone who has come in contact with me to please get tested," she said in a statement.

Indian Rupee declines by 10 paise to 75.88 against US dollar

Mumbai, Dec 14 (PTI) The rupee on Tuesday declined by 10 paise to 75.88 against the US dollar as muted domestic equities and persistent foreign fund outflows weighed on the local unit.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local currency opened at 75.94 against the greenback. During the day, the local unit witnessed an intra-day low of 75.95 and a high of 75.83 against the US dollar.

In the previous session, the rupee had settled at 75.78 against the greenback.
