UN Condemns Deadly Shelling In Libya’s Tripoli

TRIPOLI, May 9 (NNN-AGENCIES) – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), condemned the indiscriminate shelling of the capital, Tripoli, which killed two policemen and one civilian.

“UNSMIL is deeply alarmed by the intensification of indiscriminate attacks, at a moment when Libyans deserve to peacefully observe the holy month of Ramadan, and a time when they are battling the COVID-19 pandemic,” UNSMIL said.

Shelling kills 4 civilians in Libya's Tripoli: official

TRIPOLI, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Indiscriminate shelling on Friday hit a residential area in the south of the Libyan capital Tripoli, killing four civilians, according to a health ministry official.

"Four people of the same family were killed by indiscriminate shelling that hit Ain Zara area," Amin Hashemi, information advisor of the Ministry of Health, told Xinhua.

The shelling happened at the time of Iftar, the evening meal for breaking fasting during Ramadan, and ambulances could not reach them on time, Hashemi said.

Indiscriminate shelling kills 3 civilians, injures 19 in Libya's Tripoli: official

TRIPOLI, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Indiscriminate shelling on Wednesday killed three civilians and injured 19 others in Libya's capital Tripoli, said a Libyan official.

"Indiscriminate shelling hit the Tajura district in eastern Tripoli, killing three civilians and injuring 19 others, including children," Amin Hashemi, information advisor of the health ministry, told Xinhua.

"The shelling was carried out with missiles and targeted the coastal road in eastern Tripoli," Hashemi added.

Russia forced Haftar to declare truce in Libya: Saleh

3 May 2020; MEMO: Eastern Libya-based renegade General Khalifa Haftar announced a truce upon the “command of Russia” as he suffered great loses against the UN-recognised Libyan government, according to pro-Haftar parliament speaker.

Discussions between the Libyan House of Representatives Speaker Aguila Saleh and tribal leaders in eastern Libya were aired on social media, where Saleh said Russia, a key foreign supporter of Haftar, prepared a report on the situation on the ground.

Libya’s UN-Backed Gov’t Forces Launch Airstrikes On East-Based Army

TRIPOLI, Apr 25 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Spokesman of the UN-backed Libyan government’s forces, said that, its fighter jets launched four airstrikes on a military base of the rival eastern-based army, which media said, resulted in five deaths and 10 injuries.

“The air force earlier launched four airstrikes around Watya airbase, targeting military vehicles of the militias” of the eastern-based army, Mohamed Gonono, said in a statement, without revealing casualties.

Libya: UN-recognised government downs UAE drone

19 April 2020; MEMO: Libya’s UN-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) announced on Sunday that it had downed a United Arab Emirates unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in the north of the country, Anadolu Agency reports.

“Our forces successfully shot down an Emirati drone south of Misrata city,” said Mohammed Kanunu, the spokesman for the GNA-led Burkan Al-Ghadab Operation (Volcano of Rage).

“It was a Chinese-made drone equipped with guided missiles,” Kanunu added.

Libyan gov't forces attack east-based army, capture over 100 soldiers

TRIPOLI, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Libya's UN-backed government said Saturday it launched a massive attack on the rival east-based army in Tarhuna city, killing eight soldiers of the army and capturing more than 100 others.

The government's forces said they launched 17 airstrikes on the east-based army positions in Tarhuna, some 90 km south of the capital Tripoli, seizing a number of military vehicles.

Meanwhile, the government's forces accused the east-based army of attacking civilian areas in Tripoli and injuring 10 civilians, including four children.
