Kuwait names first ambassador to Iran in over six years

14 August 2022; MEMO: Kuwait has appointed an ambassador to Iran, both countries said on Sunday, more than six years after recalling its top envoy to Tehran in solidarity with Saudi Arabia after it severed ties with the Islamic Republic in 2016, Reuters reports.

Ambassador Bader Abdullah Al-Munaikh handed his credentials to Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in Tehran on Saturday, Iran's foreign ministry said on its website. Kuwait's foreign ministry confirmed Munaikh was appointed envoy to Iran.

Ambassador Bader Abdullah Al-Munaikh handed his credentials to Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in Tehran on Saturday, Iran's foreign ministry said on its website. Kuwait's foreign ministry confirmed Munaikh was appointed envoy to Iran.

Iran already has an ambassador in Kuwait.

Kuwait: New Government sworn in

02 August 2022; MEMO: The new Kuwaiti government, led by Prime Minister Ahmed Nawaf Al-Ahmad, was sworn in on Tuesday, according to the state news agency, KUNA, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Crown Prince Meshal Al-Sabah received the 12-member Cabinet at the Bayan Palace in the capital, Kuwait City, at a ceremony attended by top officials, the broadcaster said.

A Royal decree was issued by the country's Emir on Monday to form a new government, made up of 12 ministers.

Kuwaiti Emir Appoints New PM

KUWAIT CITY, Jul 25 (NNN-KUNA) – The Kuwaiti Emir, yesterday appointed Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as the prime minister and tasking him with forming a new cabinet.

As required by the constitution, the prime minister-designate will then inform the National Assembly of his nomination before assuming office, according to the Centre for Government Communication of Kuwait.

In May, the Kuwaiti Emir approved the resignation of then Prime Minister, Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and his cabinet, in which Ahmad served as first deputy prime minister and minister of interior.

Kuwait returns 5 smuggled artifacts to Egypt

KUWAIT CITY, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait returned on Thursday five smuggled Pharaonic artifacts to Egypt, a Kuwaiti official said.

Sultan Al-Duwaish, head of Artifacts and Museums Department in the National Council for Culture Arts and Literature (NCCAL) of Kuwait, handed over the artifacts to the Egyptian ambassador to Kuwait at the Kuwait National Museum.

The five Egyptian artifacts were smuggled from Egypt in 2019 and confiscated by the Customs Department in Kuwait Airport, Al-Duwaish said.

Kuwait donates $2m to UNRWA

09 May 2022; MEMO: Kuwait announced yesterday that it is donating $2 million to the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Kuwait Ambassador to Jordan, Aziz Al-Dijani, said.

In a press release, Al-Dijani said that this donation aimed to reinforce the activities of UNRWA in the region which are targeting at about five million Palestinian refugees.

He reiterated the "steadfast supportive" stance of Kuwait for the Palestinian issue. He also reiterated Kuwait's obligation towards supporting the Palestinian refugees.

OPEC's decision to increase oil output helps restore market balance: Kuwaiti oil minister

KUWAIT CITY, May 5 (Xinhua) -- The decision of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its allies to raise oil output will help restore market balance, Kuwait's Deputy Prime Minister and Oil Minister Mohammad Al-Fares said on Thursday.

The minister said that the decision aims to "restore market balance through a monthly increase," and will ensure market stability and achieve a balance between supply and demand.
