India: Candidates must disclose criminal cases: Chief Electoral Officer

Ranchi, Mar 11 (PTI) Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer L. Khiangte Monday said that it is mandatory for candidates filing nominations for the Lok Sabha elections in the state to disclose criminal cases against them through print/electronic media two days ahead of their nomination.

An election office press statement quoting Khiangte said that two days ahead of filing nominations, the candidates should give details about cases/conviction, if any, details through print and electronic media.

India: 11 youths charged with sedition for wearing Pak flag in social media photo

Dhanbad (J'khand), Feb 27 (PTI) A sedition case has been registered against 11 youths in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district after a photo emerged on social media purportedly showing them wearing shirts made out of the Pakistan flag, police said Wednesday.

Superintendent of Police (Dhanbad-Rural) Aman Kumar said five of the youths, suspected to have figured in the group photo, had been arrested on Wednesday. The police refused to share details of those arrested.

India: 3 PLFI terrorists killed in encounter with security forces

Ranchi, Feb 24 (PTI) Three ultras of the banned Peoples Liberation Front of India (PLFI) were killed in an encounter with security forces in Gumla district on Sunday, a senior police officer said.

The incident happened at Amtoli forest under the jurisdiction of Kamdara police station.

Additional Director General of Police (Operation) M L Meena told PTI that the three were killed during the encounter with the personnel of CRPFs CoBRA unit and the Gumla district police, about 94 km from here.

Man arrested for raising anti-India slogans in Jharkhand

Jamshedpur, Feb 19 (PTI) A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raising anti-India slogans on old Purulia road here in East Singhbhum district, a police officer said Tuesday.

The incident happened under the jurisdiction of Azadnagar police station on Sunday, the police officer said, adding, the accused, identified as Anas Razi, is a resident of Zakirnagar.

India: PLFI terrorist killed in encounter with security forces

Khunti (Jharkhand), Feb 14 (PTI) One ultra of the banned Peoples Liberation Front of India (PLFI) was killed in an encounter with the security forces in Khunti district on Thursday, police said.

The encounter took place at Merambir forest area of the district, Deputy Inspector General of Police, A V Homkar said.

The security forces were on anti-naxal operation, the DIG said, adding that the body of the ultra was found in the encounter spot.

The security forces also recovered an automatic rifle from the spot, the DIG added.

India: College student gangraped in West Singhbhum district

Jamshedpur, Feb 12 (PTI) A 20-year-old college student was allegedly raped by eight youths in West Singhbhum district, police said Tuesday.

The woman was returning from Chaibasa to Jorapokhar with her boyfriend on a motorcycle when the accused stopped them near Tekrahatu on Sunday evening. .

They thrashed the boyfriend and then dragged the woman towards the bushes and allegedly raped her, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Sadar), Amar Kumar Pandey said.

India: Minor girl allegedly raped by five youths in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Jan 31 (PTI) A minor was allegedly raped by five youths at Bundu area of Ranchi district and the accused were arrested, a senior police officer said on Thursday.

The incident took place of Tuesday when the girl left home to visit her maternal uncles house at Bundu, about 40 km from here, superintendent of police (rural) Ashutosh Shekhar said.

But before going her uncle's house, the girl had spent time with her boy friend. Then when they were on their way to the girl's uncle's house, the five accused thrashed the boy and snatched away their mobile phones.

India: 5 PLFI ultras killed by Indian security forces in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Jan 29; PTI: At least five ultras of the banned Peoples Liberation Front of India (PLFI) were killed and two others injured in an encounter with security forces Tuesday in neighbouring Khunti district, a senior police officer said.

The PLFI is a splinter group of the CPI (Maoist).

"According to primary information, five ultras of the PLFI outfit were killed and two others injured. The injured have been shifted to a hospital," Inspector General of Police (Operation) Ashish Batra said here.

India: Five Naxal terrorists killed in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Jan 29 (PTI) At least five Naxals have been killed in an encounter with security forces in Jharkhand Tuesday, officials said.

Two AK-47 rifles, a .303 rifle and five pistols were recovered from the Naxals, they said.

A team of CRPF's 209 CoBRA battalion and state police had an exchange of fire with Naxals near the Rotkatoli village under Bari police station along the border of Khunti and West Singhbhum districts around 6:20 AM, they said.

India: Jharkhand CM presents Rs 85,429 crore budget

Ranchi, Jan 22 (PTI) Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das Tuesday tabled an estimated Rs 85,429 crore budget for the year 2019-20 in the state Assembly with more than 25 per cent of the funds earmarked for development of ST/SC areas.

Out of the total budget, Rs 65,803 crore is on the head of revenue expenditure while Rs 19,626 crore on capital expenditure, the chief minister said in his budget speech.
