Italian prime minister, Putin discuss migration crisis, energy prices, Italy says

ROME, November 22. /TASS/: Italy’s Prime Minister Mario Draghi and Russian President Vladimir Putin held telephone talks to discuss the migration crisis at the Polish-Belarusian border, prices for energy resources and the situation in Ukraine, the Italian government’s Chigi Palace said on Monday.

"Telephone talks between Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi and Russian President Vladimir Putin took place,’’ the Italian prime minister’s office said. ‘’The talks were focused on the migration crisis at the border of Poland and Belarus, energy prices and the situation in Ukraine.’’

They decided to flee, and along with five relatives, began a two-month odyssey that took them through Iran and Turkey.

When it was time to cross the Mediterranean, they did so on an expensive sailboat that came ashore this month on a beach in the southern Italian region of Calabria.

Italy: Migrant boat with 10 dead bodies arrives in Sicily

ROME, Nov 20 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A boat carrying the bodies of 10 migrants found dead at sea arrived in Sicily on Friday, along with dozens of people it rescued this week as they tried to cross the Mediterranean.

The crew of the Geo Barents vessel, run by charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF), found the corpses on an overcrowded boat 30 nautical miles off the Libyan coast.

They are believed to have died from suffocation after spending 13 hours on the boat’s lower deck where there was an intense smell of fuel, MSF said in a statement.

Italian Coast Guard rescues 300 migrants from stormy seas

ROCCELLA JONICA, Italy (AP) — The Italian Coast Guard has rescued more than 300 young men and boys, most of them from Egypt, from a storm-battered fishing boat in rough seas off the southern “toe” of Italy’s mainland.

The rescue began Saturday night and ended early Sunday when the 303 migrants, soaked and shivering, stepped on to the port of Roccella Jonica in the the Calabria region.

Pope affirms support for two-state solution to Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Brazil's Bolsonaro met with protests in Italy visit

PISTOIA, Italy, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was met by jeering protesters when he visted the Italian town of Pistoia on Tuesday to pay homage to a war memorial dedicated to Brazilian soldiers killed in World War Two.

The right-wing leader, who attended the Group of 20 summit in Rome last weekend, has been criticized for increased deforestation in the Amazon under his government and for his management of the COVID-19 pandemic. His opponents also accuse him of dictatorial behaviour.
