Italy police ID suspect in 2013 NASA hack

ROME (AP) — Italian authorities say they have placed a 25-year-old Italian under investigation for allegedly hacking eight NASA web domains in 2013.

Italy’s postal police, who handle hacking and other cybercrime investigations, said the suspect was allegedly a member of a group called “Master Italian Hackers Team” and boasted of the hack on social media.

In addition to NASA sites, police said the unnamed suspect also hacked some 60 Italian institutional sites, including those of state-run broadcaster RAI, the penitentiary police and some provincial sites in Tuscany.

Italian pro-refugee mayor under house arrest for allegedly aiding illegal migration

ROME, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- The mayor of an Italian town which has been known for integrating refugees was put under house arrest on Tuesday for allegedly favoring illegal migration.

Domenico Lucano, the mayor of southern Italian town Riace, was also accused of organizing "marriages of convenience" between local men and foreign women and setting up systems aimed at bypassing rules for migrants to be allowed to live in Italy. His partner Tesfahun Lemlem faces the same accusations.

Italy declares state of emergency in northern region after bridge collapse: PM

GENOA, Italy, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Italian government has declared the state of emergency in the Liguria region surrounding the northwest city of Genoa, a day after the dramatic collapse of a major motorway bridge that caused dozens of victims, the country's prime minister said on Wednesday.

A state of emergency request had been filed by the regional authorities earlier in the day.

Rescuers fear Italy bridge collapse toll could exceed 35

GENOA, Italy, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- As the toll in the deadly bridge collapse in Italy's northwestern city of Genoa reportedly reached 35 and rescue workers frantically searched in the debris for survivors, the chance of finding more people alive looked slim.

Bloomberg reported the toll had reached 35. It could rise further in the following days, police and Red Cross officials told Xinhua.

70-Year old Pries Arrested in Italy, Caught in Car with 10-year Old Girl

FLORENCE, July 25 (NNN-Bernama) -- A 70-year-old priest working at a parish near Florence has been arrested for sexual assault, Italian news agency ANSA reported.

The priest has been accused of sexual assault after being caught in a car with a 10-year-old girl on Monday, sources said Wednesday.
