FPIs pull out Rs 929 cr from Indian mkts so far this month

New Delhi, Apr 11 (PTI) Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have withdrawn a net Rs 929 crore from Indian markets so far this month amid concerns over rising COVID-19 cases denting the economic recovery.

The reversal of buying trend came after FPIs invested Rs 17,304 crore in March, Rs 23,663 crore in February and Rs 14,649 crore in January.

Siliguri, Apr 11 (PTI) Describing the incident of firing in Cooch Behar as a "genocide", West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said the Election Commission has restricted the entry of politicians in the district for 72 hours as it seeks to "suppress facts".

The TMC supremo, while addressing a press meet here, claimed that central forces "sprayed bullets aiming at the torso of the victims" in Sitalkuchi area, when the fourth phase of polling was underway in the state.

India: Four booked for raping 16-year-old girl in UP's Bareilly

Bareilly (UP), Apr 10 (PTI) Police here have lodged a case against four people for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl and threatening to upload her video on social media, an official said on Saturday.

The accused included the girl's uncle.

Police said the girl was raped by her uncle and three youths around a month ago.

On April 2, the girl tried to commit suicide but was saved by her brother, after which she disclosed the incident.

India: Man accused of raping British in Goa held in K'taka

Panaji, Apr 10 (PTI) A man accused of raping a British national in Goa was held in Hoskote in neighbouring Karnataka seven months after he escaped for the second time from a jail in Colvale near here, police said on Saturday.

Ramachandran Yellappa was arrested in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday after a seven month hunt across Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, an official said.

India: Businessman shot dead in UP's Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur (UP), Apr 10 (PTI) A 30-year-old businessman was shot dead by unidentified assailants when he was standing in the balcony of his house in Shahpur area, police said on Saturday.

The incident occurred on Friday night when some people started pelting stones at the gate of Ved Prakash Chowdhary's house.

After hearing the commotion, Chowdhury stepped out into the balcony on the second floor of the house. The assailants sprayed bullets towards him and escaped, the police said.

India: Farmer found hanging in UP's Banda

Banda (UP), Apr 11 (PTI) Faced with financial woes, a 52-year-old farmer in Parsahar village of the district allegedly hanged himself from a tree in his field, police said on Sunday.

The body of the farmer identified as Chanda alias Chandrabhan (52) was found on Saturday.

The farmer's son told police that his father was disturbed due to financial issues, and there were frequent disputes in the family over household expenditure.

India: Man gets 1 year in jail in umbai for molesting teen girl

Mumbai, Apr 11 (PTI) A 20-year-old man was sentenced to one year imprisonment by a special POCSO court in Mumbai for molesting a teen girl last year.

Special Judge Bharti Kale, in her order on April 7, the detailed copy of which was made available on Saturday, convicted the man under section 354 (molestation) of the IPC and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for winking and making flying kiss gestures at a 14-year-old girl.

India: 4 Kashmiris killed by Indian Sec Forces in Shopian and Anantnag district of Indian Administered Kashmir

Anantnag, 11 April  2021: 4 Kashmiris have been killed on Sunday by Indian security forces in Shopian and Anantnag district of the Indian Administered Kashmir, Indian officials said.

Police has claimed that the slain separatists were responsible for the killing of Havaldar Mohammad Saleem AKhoon outside his residence at Goriwan in Bijbehara area on Friday.

India: Protesting farmers block expressway near Ghaziabad's Dasna

Ghaziabad, Apr (PTI) Farmers protesting against the Centre's farm laws blocked both sides of the Eastern Peripheral Expressway near Dasna town here on Saturday.

The call for a 24-hour blockade was given by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of farmer unions spearheading the agitation.

The blockade started at 8 am and will last 24 hours till Sunday morning.

Pakistan ready for talks if India ensures conducive environment: Shah Mahmood

MULTAN, Apr 10 (APP): Foreign Minister, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Saturday said Pakistan was ready for dialogue if India ensured conducive environment.

Talking to media after inaugurating Ramzan Relief Package at Utility Store, Qureshi said Kashmir was the main hurdle in talks with India, adding that he would be ready to go to Delhi for talks if India would stop brutalities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K).

He said, there were issues with India including Kashmir, Siachen, Water, Sir Creek and others.
