India: Man gets 20-years in jail for raping girl

Simdega (Jharkhand), Feb 27 (PTI) A Simdega court has sentenced a man to 20-years in jail for raping a 17-year-old girl in Simdega district in 2018.

Additional District Judge Madhuresh Kumar Verma on Wednesday sentenced 42-year-old Vinod Gupta after finding him guilty of raping the girl under Pocso Act and various IPC sections.

Delhi violence: Death toll reaches 34

New Delhi, Feb 27 (PTI) Seven more fatalities have been recorded at three hospitals, taking the total death toll in the northeast Delhi communal violence over the amended citizenship law to 34 on Thursday, according to senior officials.

Till Wednesday night, the total count of casualties had stood at 27, 25 of those at GTB Hospital in Dilshad Garden.

India: Man gets seven years RI for raping minor

Thane, Feb 27 (PTI) A district court here sentenced a 31-year-old man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in Bhiwandi town of Maharashtra's Thane district.

In an order issued on Wednesday, district judge R R Vaishnav sentenced Kasim Ansari to seven years of rigorous imprisonment under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and fined him Rs 3,000.

27 Dead, Over 200 Injured In Indian Capital Violence

NEW DELHI, Feb 27 (NNN-PTI) – The death toll in the communal violence in the Indian capital rose to 27 and more than 200 were injured on Wednesday evening.

While 25 deaths have been confirmed at Guru Teg Bahadur hospital, the other two deaths were reported at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan hospital.

“The death toll has risen to 27 as three more succumbed during medical treatment,” Dr Sunil Kumar, of Guru Teg Bahadur hospital told media.

The dead include a policeman and a junior-level official of Intelligence Bureau.

India: Man held for making derogatory remarks against anti-CAA protesters

Palakkad (Kerala), Feb 26 (PTI) A 24-year-old man was arrested here on charges of making derogatory remarks against those protesting the Citizenship Amendment Act at Delhi's Shaheen Bagh after a compliant was filed against him, police said on Wednesday.

Attappadi resident Sreejith Raveendran was nabbed after the Democratic Youth Federation of India, CPI-M's youth wing, filed the complaint, they said.
