Alibaba, Jack Ma summoned by Indian court on former employee's complaint

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - An Indian court has summoned Alibaba and its founder Jack Ma in a case in which a former employee in India says he was wrongfully fired after objecting to what he saw as censorship and fake news on company apps, documents seen by Reuters showed.

The case comes weeks after India cited security concerns in banning Alibaba’s UC News, UC Browser and 57 other Chinese apps after a clash between the two countries’ forces on their border.

India: Telangana Home Min MMAli asks Muslims not to sacrifice cows for Bakrid

Hyderabad, Jul 25 (PTI) Telangana Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali on Saturday appealed to Muslims not to sacrifice cows on Bakridfestival on August 1.

Observing that the state is known for secularism where all religions are treated with mutual and equal respect, he said Bakrid should be celebrated in the same spirit, an official release said.

Secularism is promoted during the present TRS regime, he said.

India: TMC launches social media campaign to counter BJP

Kolkata, Jul 26 (PTI) In a bid to counter the BJP's social media campaign, West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress on Sunday launched a new initiative to highlight the achievements of the state government and showcase how federalism is being allegedly eroded by the Centre.

The campaign - "Shoja Banglay Bolchi" (speaking in straightforward Bengali) will be a three days a week video series anchored by TMC's Rajya Sabha party leader Derek O'Brien.

India: Naxal terror: 40 kg IED recovered in Chhattisgarh

Bijapur, Jul 26 (PTI) A powerful 40 kg improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Maoists was recovered in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Sunday, police said.

The explosive, packed in a big plastic container, was unearthed by a joint team of various security forces on Basaguda-Tarrem road, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Kamlochan Kashyap said.

Personnel belonging to CRPF's 168th battalion, 204th battalion of CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action- an elite unit of CRPF) and the district force were involved in the operation, he said.

KANPUR: In yet another reshuffling by the State Government recently, the new SSP has been sent to Kanpur Nagar district.

This reshuffle comes at a time when Opposition parties have ridiculed the state govt for deteriorating law and order situation.

New Delhi, Jul 25 (PTI) Shakeel Khan came from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, around two weeks ago to sell his employer's goats at Delhi's famous caprine market near Jama Masjid. A week away from Eid al-Adha or Bakri Eid, he has not been able to find any buyers.

With a little money left on him, the 22-year-old spends his nights outside closed shops on Urdu Bazar Road near the famous mosque.

New Delhi, Jul 24 (PTI) The COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown saw many people turning chefs overnight, but those who could not turned to online delivery of food. And not just any food, as per a new report, Indians "craved the most for Biryani" during the lockdown.

The "StatEATistics report: The Quarantine Edition" from food delivery platform Swiggy found that Indians ordered biryani over "5.5 lakh times" from their favourite restaurants.

India: Terrorist Vikas Dubey's fifth aide arrested: STF

Kanpur, Jul 24 (PTI) Yet another alleged accomplice of slain gangster Vikas Dubey, who participated in the massacre of eight policemen at Bikru village in Kanpur was arrested by the UP Special Task Force, the STF said in a statement on Friday.

Identified as Shivam Dubey (24) was arrested on Thursday evening, the STF said.

Shivam is the fifth accused arrested in the case.
