India: Uddhav Thackeray formally takes charge as Maha CM

Mumbai, Nov 29 (PTI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray formally took charge of his office here on Friday afternoon.

He took charge shortly after 2 pm, entering the sixth floor office of the CM, outside which a plate bearing the name 'Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray' was put up.

When he reached Mantralaya, he paid floral tributes to the portrait of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the building.

India: Non-disclosure of cases: summons delivered to Fadnavis

Nagpur, Nov 28 (PTI) Nagpur Police on Thursday delivered a summons, issued by a local court to former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, in connection with a case where he is accused of concealing information about two criminal matters against him in election affidavit.

The summons was delivered at Fadnavis's house here, said an official of Sadar Police Station.

The development came on the day a new Shiv Sena-led government was sworn in in Maharashtra.

India: Goarakhpur, Varanasi to have tourist police stations

Lucknow, Nov 28 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government will set up a tourist police station each in Gorakhpur and Varanasi for extending better facilities to national and international tourists and pilgrims and ensuring their safety, an official said on Thursday.

Principal Secretary, Home, Avnish Awasthi said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had directed the officials concerned to act promptly for setting up the new tourist police stations in accordance with the prescribed norms.

India: Minor Dalit girl abducted and raped by five men in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), Nov 29 (PTI) A 15-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly abducted and raped by five people for over a month in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district, police said on Friday.

The girl was abducted on October 16 and taken to Panipat in Haryana and allegedly raped, ASP Sanjay Yadav said.

The victim managed to escape and returned home on November 21. She narrated her ordeal to her family members after which her uncle lodged an FIR against five persons.

India: 7000 engineers, graduates and diploma-holders apply for 549 sanitary workers

Coimbatore; 29 Nov 2019 (UMM): About 7000 engineers, graduates and diploma-holders have applied for 549 vacancies of grade-1 sanitary workers in the city Corporation.

According to a Hindustan Times report Nov 28, the corporation had called for applications and 7,000 applicants appeared for the three-day interview and verification of certificates which began on Wednesday, official sources said.
