Belarus tells EU about measures to curb refugee flow

MINSK, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei has told the European Union (EU) that his country would try to reduce the migrant flows from Asia, Africa and the Middle East to the EU.

He made the remarks in a telephone conversation with Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the BelTA News Agency reported on Sunday.

Both sides confirmed their intention to end the migration crisis in an early date, the report said.

Belarus ready to ensure its security with Russia’s help, if necessary — defense minister

MINSK, November 12. /TASS/: Belarus has the military potential to ensure its security, with Russia’s help, if necessary, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said in a statement on Friday.

"Belarus’ Armed Forces are ready to respond toughly to any threats. The country’s challenges and threats response system makes it possible for us to ensure the country’s security, including with the help of our key strategic ally - the Russian Federation, if necessary," he said.

Belarus, U.S. will not exchange ambassadors in near future: minister

MINSK, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Belarus and the United States will not exchange ambassadors in the near future, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei told media on Wednesday.

Belarus is interested in developing relations with the United States, Makei said, hoping that the United States will better understand the interests of Belarus instead of imposing a U.S.-style form of democracy on the country.

The United States believes Belarus plays a buffer role between Russia and the West, but Belarus has no interest in assuming that position, he said.

Refugees wait in desperate conditions at Polish-Belarusian border

9 Nov 2021; MEMO: Thousands of irregular migrants are facing desperate conditions as they continue waiting at the Polish-Belarusian border, hoping to cross onto EU soil.

After crossing the Bruzgi border point in Grodno, Belarus on Monday, the immigrants—most of them from Iraq— came to the Polish border to spend Tuesday night.

Nearly 2,000 immigrants, including many women and children, stayed in tents they set up in front of the border fences in the forested area.

MINSK, October 2. /TASS/: Opposition politician Svetlana Tikhanovskaya was not forced to flee the country, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said in an interview with CNN.

"I swear by my children that Tikhanovskaya was not fleeing anywhere. She asked me to take her to the Lithuanian border, not only her but a few other people too, which is what I did. So she didn't flee. Do you want proof? We can give you proof. This is yet another fake," he said.

West won’t prevent Belarus, Russia from achieving their goals, Lukashenko says

MINSK, October 2. /TASS/: Belarus and Russia have a shared policy and pursue joint goals which the West cannot prevent them from achieving, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said in an interview with CNN as quoted by the BelTA news agency on Saturday.
