Bangladesh Recorded 3,084 New Dengue Cases, 17 More Deaths

DHAKA, Sept 19 (NNN-BSS) – Bangladesh reported 3,084 new dengue cases and 17 new deaths yesterday, taking the tally to 170,768, and the death toll to over 800, so far, this year, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Ministry of Health, said.

According to DGHS data, 46,960 dengue cases were recorded so far this month, after 71,976 in Aug, and 43,854 in July. The total 839 deaths included 246 in Sept, 342 in Aug, and 204 in July.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines Resumed Flight To Guangzhou

DHAKA, Sept 15 (NNN-BSS) – Bangladesh’s national flag carrier, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, resumed the flight between Dhaka and the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou yesterday, said a statement by the Chinese embassy in Bangladesh.

According to the statement, following the resumption, there are now six round-trip flights on this route weekly, with a capacity of 900 passengers. The flight had been suspended before, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

ADB to provide 300 mln USD loan to Bangladesh to increase technology-oriented skilled workforce

DHAKA, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Bangladeshi government Monday signed a 300 million U.S. dollar loan agreement to strengthen skills base and training programs for Bangladesh's workforce.

The Skills for Industry Competitiveness and Innovation Program aims to increase the technology-oriented skilled workforce across emerging and priority sectors, and promote inclusive skilling and upskilling opportunities for women and socially disadvantaged groups, said the Manila-based lender.

Bird Strikes Damaged Two Planes At Bangladesh’s Main Airport, Take-Offs Aborted

DHAKA. Aug 13 (NNN-BSS) – Two incidents of bird strikes occurred at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, but no casualties have been reported.

A flight of the national flag-carrier, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, on the Dhaka-Bangkok route aborted take-off as a bird strike caused one of its tyres to burst yesterday.

Passengers of the plane had to disembark in the taxiway, a senior pilot of the national flag carrier told the Daily Star, a leading local newspaper.

WHO urges swift action as dengue cases surge in Bangladesh

Dengue outbreak in Bangladesh sparks alarm after 364 people die this year and infections rise

DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) — Bangladesh is struggling to deal with higher casualties and infections from dengue this year, with officials warning that the death toll this month could break records.

The government’s Directorate General of Health Services reports the 2023 death toll from the mosquito-born illness has reached 364 in the south Asian country. More than 78,000 people have been infected since January this year, it said.

Bangladesh: Four Dead, Over 315,000 Displaced In Flood-Hit Cox’s Bazar

COX’S BAZAR, Bangladesh, Aug 9 (NNN-BSS) – The International Rescue Committee (IRC), yesterday said, it has relocated over 15,000 Rohingya refugees and 300,000 members of the local communities in flash flood-hit Cox’s Bazar district of Bangladesh.

At least four people, including two Rohingya refugees, are reported to have died in the floods, IRC said in a statement.

Russia to supply nuclear fuel to Bangladesh power plant in September

31 July 2023; MEMO: The Director-General of Russia's nuclear energy corporation, Rosatom, on Monday said that Bangladesh will get the nuclear fuel for its lone nuclear power plant this September, Anadolu Agency reports.

Alexey Likhachev said this during a meeting with Bangladeshi Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, at the latter's office in the capital, Dhaka, the Premier's Press Secretary, Ihsanul Karim, told reporters after the meeting.

World Bank Approves 300 Million USD For Bangladesh Gas Distribution System

Bangladesh Police Clashed With Opposition Protestors Demanding PM’s Resignation For Fair Polls

DHAKA, Jul 30 (NNN-BSS) – Police in Dhaka, yesterday fought with opposition protestors, with teargas and rubber bullets.

In a protest, demanding Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina’s resignation, the opposition protestors gathered in the morning to block traffic on key arterial routes in the capital.

Television footage showed the police used rubber bullets and teargas to disperse the gatherings and drove the protesters away from the streets.
