BEIJING, Oct. 17 (APP): Expert Advisory Panel on Traditional Medicine, World Health Organization (WHO) and Co-Director of Sino-Pakistan Cooperation Center on TCM (SPCCTCM), Prof Liu Xinmin said that Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Unani Tibb (traditional medicine in Pakistan) enjoy a broad space of collaboration in research and development, management and production.

BEIJING, Oct 16 (APP): The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) would promote China’s development and share prosperity for the world, said Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Moin ul Haque.

He said that the Congress would lay a strong foundation for furthering China’s ongoing progress and development journey.

Taiwan says it will not back down on its sovereignty

TAIPEI, Oct 16 (Reuters) - Taiwan will not back down on its sovereignty or compromise on freedom and democracy, and its people clearly oppose Beijing's idea of "one country, two systems" management for Taiwan, the self-ruled island's presidential office said on Sunday.

The statement came shortly after Chinese President Xi Jinping said in a speech at the opening of a the Communist Party Congress in Beijing that it is up to the Chinese people to resolve the Taiwan issue and China will never renounce the use of force over Taiwan.

China’s Xi calls for military growth as party congress opens

BEIJING (AP) — Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Sunday called for faster military development and announced no change in policies that have strained relations with Washington and tightened the ruling Communist Party’s control over society and the economy.

China’s most influential figure in decades spoke as the party opened a congress that was closely watched by companies, governments and the public for signs of official direction. It comes amid a painful slump in the world’s second-largest economy and tension with Washington and Asian neighbors over trade, technology and security.

Road Accident Killed Seven In Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK, Oct 15 (NNN-KNA) – Seven people have died in a traffic accident, in southern Kyrgyzstan’s Jalal-Abad Oblast, the regional traffic safety department said, yesterday.

The accident occurred at the Ala-Bel pass, of the Bishkek-Osh highway, which connects the north and south of the country. The collision, between two vehicles, also left two people injured.

Statistics show that, since the beginning of the year, 4,972 road accidents have occurred in Kyrgyzstan, killing 477 people in total.

China says it reserves right to use force over Taiwan

BEIJING, Oct 15 (Reuters) - China reserves the right to use force over Taiwan as a last resort in compelling circumstances, though peaceful reunification is its first choice, a Communist Party spokesman said on Saturday.

Reunification of China and Taiwan meets the interests of all, including Taiwan compatriots, Sun Yeli told a news conference in Beijing.

Magnitude-5.3 earthquake rattles southern Philippines

MANILA, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- An offshore earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 rattled Surigao Del Sur province in southern Philippines late Saturday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

The institute said the quake, which occurred at 11:14 p.m. local time, hit at a depth of one km, about 68 km northeast of Marihatag town.

The institute said the tectonic quake will trigger aftershocks but will not cause damage.

The Philippines has frequent seismic activity due to its location along the Pacific "Ring of Fire." 

China’s Xi looks to 3rd 5-year term as Communist Party meets

BEIJING (AP) — On the eve of the opening of a key Chinese Communist Party congress, party leader, head of state and commander of the armed forces Xi Jinping seems more in charge than ever, having given no indication of stepping away from power or anointing a successor.

Xi had given few signs during his steady rise through the ranks of the party that he would develop into one of modern China’s most dominant leaders, or that he would put the economically and militarily ascendant country on a collision course with the U.S.-led international order.

11 students drown after river ferry capsizes in Cambodia

KOH CHAMROEUN, Cambodia (AP) — Eleven students in southern Cambodia who were crossing a river died after the boat they were on capsized, officials said.

Four people — two students and two of the boat’s crew — were rescued following the accident Thursday night on the Mekong River southeast of Phnom Penh, police said.

The body of a 14-year-old boy, who had been missing, was found Saturday morning, Maj. Gen. Chhoeun Sochet, chief of the Kandal provincial police, said on his Facebook page.
