France expresses concern about Tunisia wave of arrests

25 Feb 2023; MEMO: France has expressed "its concern regarding the recent wave of arrests in Tunisia", calling on authorities to: "Ensure that individual liberties and civil liberties are respected, in particular the freedom of expression."

This was conveyed in a press statement by the French Foreign Ministry, which was posted by the French Embassy to Tunisia on its website.

US Congresswoman Tlaib condemns Israel's 'violent attack' on occupied Nablus

25 Feb 2023; MEMO: US Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib has condemned the "violent attack" carried out by the Israeli occupation on the occupied West Bank city of Nablus.

Tlaib wrote on Twitter: "Today the extremist right-wing government of Israel violently attacked the city of Nablus, leaving 82 Palestinians shot & bringing the 2023 death toll to 61, including 13 children."

OIC condemns Israel 'massacre' in Nablus as 'state terrorism'

23 Feb 2023; MEMO: The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the Israeli "massacre" committed in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus and which resulted in 11 deaths and 102 injuries among Palestinians.

"This heinous crime constitutes an extension of the record of Israeli crimes and organised state terrorism practiced against the Palestinian people," the OIC said in a statement.

UN 'appalled' by loss of civilian lives in Nablus

23 Feb 2023; MEMO: Following the Israeli killing of 11 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus, UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, said yesterday he was "appalled" by the loss of civilian lives.

In a statement Wennesland said: "I am deeply disturbed by the continuing cycle of violence and appalled by the loss of civilian lives."

Lebanon Parliament Speaker calls to end Israeli massacres against Palestinians

23 Feb 2023; MEMO: Lebanese Parliament Speaker, Nabih Berri, called Thursday for a "serious, historic pause to stop the massacre" of the Palestinian people, Anadolu News Agency reported.

This came in a statement published on the Lebanese Parliament website, commenting on the Israeli military operation that killed eleven Palestinians in the city of Nablus in the northern Occupied West Bank on Wednesday.

Tunisia lawyer: National Salvation Front founder arrested

24 Feb 2023; MEMO: A Tunisian lawyer said yesterday that security forces arrested the veteran leader of the National Salvation Front Izz Al-Din Al-Hazqi.

Dalila Mosaddeq, Al-Hazqi's daughter and lawyer, did not provide any details regarding the circumstances of his arrest.

The National Salvation Front is a coalition of political movements and parties that are opposed to President Kais Saied.

Israel deports MEP after denying entry to occupied Palestinian territories

22 Feb 2023; MEMO: Israel prevented a member of the European parliament from entering the occupied Palestinian territories on Monday, and then deported her to Spain.

Ana Miranda MEP landed at Ben Gurion Airport late on Monday. The international airport also serves the occupied Palestinian territories. She was with a delegation of MEPs who are involved in relations with Palestine.

US' terror killings linked to right-wing extremism spiked over last decade

WASHINGTON (AP) — The number of U.S. mass killings linked to extremism over the past decade was at least three times higher than the total from any 10-year period since the 1970s, according to a report by the Anti-Defamation League.

The report — provided to The Associated Press ahead of its public release Thursday — also found that all extremist killings identified in 2022 were linked to right-wing extremism, with an especially high number linked to white supremacy.
