Tunisians Rally In Protest Against U.S. Mideast 'Peace' Plan

TUNIS, Feb 6 (NNN-TAP) – Hundreds of Tunisians, on Wednesday, marched in the centre of the capital Tunis, in protest of the newly unveiled U.S. Middle East peace plan.

The protesters include members of civil society, professional organisations and political parties, as well as, independent activists.

“Palestine is not and will never be for sale,” said Noureddine Taboubi, secretary-general of the Tunisian General Labour Union, organiser of the march.

“Al-Quds (Jerusalem) is the eternal capital of the Palestinian people,” he added.

Israel Reduces Allowed Fishing Zone Off Gaza Coast For Palestinians To Only 10 Nautical Miles

GAZA, Feb 6 (NNN-WAFA) – The Israeli army decided, on Wednesday, to reduce the allowed fishing zone off the Gaza Strip coast from 15 to 10 nautical miles, said Israeli and Palestinian sources.

The office of the Israeli coordinator of the government’s activities in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip said, the permitted area will be reduced to 10 nautical miles.

According to the office, the decision was taken “after security consultations,” following “continued rocket firing and explosive balloons from the Gaza Strip into Israel.”

India: Trust to be set up for construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya: PM

New Delhi, Feb 5 (PTI) The Union Cabinet has given its nod to set up a trust for the construction of a Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

Soon after the meeting of the Union Cabinet ended, Modi reached Lok Sabha to make a statement in this regard.

India: People rejecting BJP's divisive narrative: Swara Bhaskar

Kolkata, Feb 4 (PTI) Actor Swara Bhaskar, one of the vocal critics of new citizenship law, claimed on Tuesday that the BJP-led Centre was making all efforts to polarise people, but those who have been able to see through its "divisive plans have rejected the party's narrative".

Bhaskar, while participating at a session at the 44th International Kolkata Book Fair, said citizens do not initially realise when their freedom is curtailed, as they try and adjust to the changes.

India: 50-yr-old Dalit woman set on fire, 'critical'

Aurangabad, Feb 5 (PTI) A 50-year-old Dalit woman was set ablaze by a man when she tried to resist his move to enter her house in Maharashtra's Aurangabad district, officials said on Wednesday.

The woman, who suffered about 95 per cent burns in the incident that took place in Andhari village of Sillod tehsil on Sunday midnight, was battling for life at a government hospital here.

Draft UN resolution condemns Israeli annexation in Trump peace plan

05 Feb 2020; MEMO: A draft United Nations Security Council resolution on Tuesday condemned an Israeli plan to annex its settlements in the West Bank in a rebuke of President Donald Trump’s pro-Israel 'peace proposal', Reuters reports.

The draft text, circulated to council members by Tunisia and Indonesia, would seemingly face a US veto, but nonetheless offered some members’ dim view of the peace plan that Trump rolled out last week with great fanfare.

Palestinian president, top EU diplomat speak by phone

05 Feb 2020; MEMO: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell spoke by phone Tuesday on the latest developments in the region, reports Anadolu Agency.

Abbas reiterated his country’s support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

He said his country has always respected international law and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Borrell said in response that the EU supports the two-state solution and peace efforts.

Israeli warplanes strike Hamas targets in Gaza

05 Feb 2020; MEMO: Israel said Wednesday that it launched airstrikes targeting positions of the Palestinian resistance group Hamas in the Gaza Strip, reports Anadolu Agency.

Positions belonging to the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ military wing, in the southern city of Khan Yunis were hit by missiles launched from Israeli warplanes, said sources on the ground.

There were no casualties according to initial assessments by local sources.
