Iran, Iraq establish committee to prosecute US officials over Soleimani assassination

17 Feb 2020; MEMO: Senior officials in Iran and Iraq have decided to establish a joint committee to prosecute the US officials involved in the assassination of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, Iranian IRNA Agency reported.

IRNA revealed that the decision came during a meeting held on Sunday between the Iranian deputy justice minister for human rights and international affairs, Mahmoud Abbasi, with the Iraqi deputy prosecutor, Dhari Jaber Farhood and director of human rights and international cooperation of the Iraqi Ministry of Justice, Kamel Amin Hashim.

Trump threatens intelligence block over Huawei: US diplomat

Washington, Feb 17 (AFP/PTI) The United States' ambassador to Germany said Sunday that President Donald Trump had threatened to cut off intelligence-sharing with countries that dealt with Chinese tech firm Huawei.

Washington has been pressing allies to ban Huawei, one of the world's largest tech firms, from next-generation 5G mobile data networks, saying it is a security risk.

India: Anti-CAA protests continue for third day in TN

Chennai, Feb 16 (PTI) Anti-CAA protests by members of Muslim community continued for the third day on Sunday in Old Washermanpet area in the city and some other parts of Tamil Nadu.

The fresh round of agitations against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), after a lull since December, followed the violence that broke out during a protest here on Friday in which four police personnel and some protesters suffered injuries.

New Delhi, Feb 16 (PTI) Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday shared a video purportedly showing Jamia students being beaten up by police and said if no action is taken, the government's intentions would stand exposed.

She also accused the Home Minister and the Delhi Police of "lying" that Jamia students were not beaten up inside the library.

Any Future Mideast Peace Talks Must Be Based On UN Resolutions: Palestinian PM

Libyans fatigued by worsening crisis – Red Cross chief

On Thursday, fighting continued in Libya’s capital Tripoli, a day after the UN Security Council resolution called for a “lasting ceasefire”. Reports say civilian casualties were recorded.

Saudi foreign minister praises ‘deal of the century’

14 Feb 2020; MEMO: Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Adel Al-Jubeir has praised the US-drafted Middle East peace plan to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict known as “deal of the century” saying it contains positive elements for negotiations.

“There are positive elements in Trump’s peace plan,” Al-Jubeir said on the sidelines of his visit to Romania on Thursday, adding that the elements “may establish the basis for negotiation between the two sides”.
