India: MHA seeks 3 additional months for framing CAA rules

New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) The Home Ministry has sought an additional three months' time for framing rules of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), officials said on Sunday.

The plea was made before the Department Related Standing Committee for Subordinate Legislation as according to the Manual on Parliamentary Work, the rules for any legislation should be framed within six months of the presidential assent or an extension must be sought.

(AP) A federal appeals court Friday threw out Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s death sentence in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, saying the judge who oversaw the case did not adequately screen jurors for potential biases.

A three-judge panel of the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ordered a new penalty-phase trial on whether the 27-year-old Tsarnaev should be executed for the attack that killed three people and wounded more than 260 others.

India: Man held for raping 15-yr-old girl in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar, Aug 1 (PTI) Police have arrested one of the three men accused of raping a 15-year-old girl here, an official said on Saturday.

According to an FIR registered in the case, the accused abducted the minor on Thursday when she had gone out of her house to throw garbage in the village dump yard.

India: Woman gangraped in UP's Bulandshahr

Bulandshahr, Jul 31 (PTI) A 50-year-old woman was allegedly raped by five men in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district, police said on Friday.

A case under Section 376 D (gangrape) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against two identified and three unknown persons on the basis of the complaint filed by the woman's brother-in-law, they said.

According to the complaint, the incident took place on Thursday night when the widow went to an agricultural field near her house, police said.

India: Saifuddin Soz "must be released at once" Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Jul 30 (PTI) Calling for immediate release of Jammu and Kashmir Congress leader Saifuddin Soz, Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said "illegal" detention of political leaders damages the fabric of the country.

Soz has alleged that he has been detained in his house since August 5 last year, when the Centre revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

"The illegal detention of political leaders with absolutely no basis damages the fabric of our nation. Mr Soz must be released at once," Gandhi tweeted.
