India: Hindutva elements disrupt Christmas celebration in Assam

Silchar (Assam), Dec 26 (PTI) Miscreants disrupted a Christmas programme in Silchar in Assam's Cachar district, demanding that Hindus should shun the celebrations, a senior police official said on Sunday.

Seven youths involved in the incident that happened on Saturday evening have been detained so far, she added.

Israeli settler runs over, kills elderly Palestinian woman in West Bank

25 Dec 2021; MEMO: An Israeli Jewish settler on Friday rammed his vehicle into an elderly Palestinian woman and killed her at the entrance of the town of Sinjil, northeast of the West Bank city of Ramallah, Safa news agency reported.

Local sources told Safa that the Israeli Jewish settler rammed his car into the woman while she was waiting for a taxi with her husband.

The attack, according to the sources, killed the woman immediately, and the assailant settler fled the area very fast.

UN: Majority members back war crimes probe against Israel

25 Dec 2021; MEMO: A majority of 125 countries in the UN General Assembly backed on Thursday an unprecedented open-ended war crimes probe against Israel, news agencies reported.

The probe was initially approved in May by UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in the aftermath of the Israeli aggression on Gaza that took place in May 2021.

27,050 migrants arrived in Israel in 2021

23 Dec 2021; MEMO: Israeli Immigration and Absorption Ministry announced yesterday that a total of 27,050 new immigrants arrived in Israel in 2021, the Times of Israel reported.

This, the paper said, was a 30 per cent increase compared to last year.

According to the data provided by the ministry, the number included 4,000 immigrants from the United States, stating this is the highest figure since 1973.

Israel threatens to assassinate senior Hamas leader Saleh Al-Arouri

23 Dec 2021; MEMO: Israel has threatened to assassinate senior Hamas leader Saleh Al-Arouri if the movement's activities and operations against the occupation in the West Bank continue, local news sites reported on Tuesday.

According to Hebrew news site Maariv and other Israeli media, Hamas replied to the threat saying, "the killing of any of its leaders would ignite a new war that Israel will not be able to handle."

24 Dec 2021; MEMO: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas yesterday said that Christmas was a "Palestinian message of hope that our people continue to embrace with love and aspirations toward the achievement of justice, freedom and peace."

"The historic status quo of all holy sites, including the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, as well as the Ibrahimi Mosque and in the rest of Palestine, are at the core of our national struggle," he said in a statement, addressing the Palestinian people.

Fatah slams MK Mansour Abbas for saying Israel is 'a Jewish state'

23 Dec 2021; MEMO: The Palestinian movement Fatah yesterday described remarks made by Arab Member of the Knesset Mansour Abbas about Israel's Jewish identity as "cheap alignment with the Zionist narrative".

Fatah accused Abbas of "crossing all redlines" and "turning his back on his people and their national cause by throwing himself into the arms of Zionism."

"Mansour Abbas represents only himself, and his fate and the fate of those like him will be in the dustbin of history."
