Pakistan to bring Turkey & Taliban face-to-face to discuss security of Kabul airport: PM

ISLAMABAD, Aug 12 (APP): Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that Pakistan would use its influence on Taliban for holding direct talks with Turkey to secure the Kabul International Airport as the U.S. troops are set to exit the conflict-hit country by August 31.

“We will be trying the best thing for Turkey and Taliban to have a face-to-face dialogue, so that both could talk about the reasons to secure the Kabul airport,” he said in an interaction with journalists, here at the PM House.

Some Afghans blame neighboring Pakistan for Taliban gains

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — When Wahab disappeared from his home in Afghanistan to sign on for jihad, it was in neighboring Pakistan that he got his training.

The 20-year-old was recruited by childhood friends and was taken to a militant outpost in Parachinar, on Pakistan’s rugged mountainous border with Afghanistan. There, he underwent training, preparing to fight alongside the Afghan Taliban, a relative told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because of fear of reprisals from militants and government security agents.

Pakistan: PM offers assistance to Turkey on coping forest fires

ISLAMABAD, Aug 11 (APP): Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday expressing concern over Turkey’s forest fires extended Pakistan’s support for all possible assistance to help cope with the calamity.

In a meeting with Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar, the prime minister said Pakistan and Turkey were tied with historic fraternal ties, marked by “unique trust and support”.

The prime minister conveyed his cordial greetings for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the brotherly Turkish people.

Pakistan: As UN panel warns of global warming, PM leading tree plantation drive

ISLAMABAD, Aug 9 (APP): With the United Nations panel on climate change telling the world on Monday that global warming was dangerously close to being out of control, Prime Minister Imran Khan was leading a nation-wide campaign of tree plantation in the country.

The Prime Minister’s efforts and measures to check pollution and other negative effects of global warming included the plantation of 10 Billion Trees as well as the development of Miyawaki forests in urban areas.

Pakistan to host neighboring FM's on Afghan peace

Islamabad, IRNA -- Pakistan, which was set to hold an Afghan peace conference last month, is now preparing to host a meeting of foreign ministers from neighboring countries, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, to help overcome Afghan crisis.

Local media reported on Monday that Pakistan has planned a conference as its latest diplomatic effort to bring peace in Afghanistan.

"Islamabad is trying to host the foreign ministers of Afghanistan's neighboring countries," a senior Pakistani foreign ministry official told the Express Tribune.

2 policemen killed, over 10 injured as blast hits police vehicle in SW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- At least two policemen were killed and over 10 others injured when a blast went off in Pakistan's southwest Quetta city on Sunday night, according to hospital and police officials.

Waseem Baig, spokesperson for the Civil Hospital Quetta, told Xinhua that at least 11 people including six policemen were injured in the blast that occurred near the Unity Chowk area of Quetta, the capital city of the country's southwestern Balochistan province.

3 terrorists killed in exchange of fire in Pakistan's Lahore

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Three terrorists were killed during an exchange of fire with the police in the country's eastern city of Lahore, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of police said on Sunday.

The exchange of fire took place when the CTD personnel early Sunday carried out an intelligence-based coordinated raid in the Ferozewala area of Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab province, according to the CTD in Lahore.

Pakistan police arrest 50 suspected of Hindu temple attack

MULTAN, Pakistan (AP) — Police arrested 50 people suspected of ransacking a Hindu temple in a remote town in eastern Pakistan and were searching for another 100 suspects, police said Saturday.

The attack on a temple in the town of Bhong in Punjab province Wednesday followed the alleged desecration of a religious school by a young Hindu boy earlier in the week. The unruly mob burned down the temple’s main door and damaged statues.
