India: Instructing centres offer culinary courses in Kanpur & 9 other districts

Kanpur: The Food Processing Department in Uttar Pradesh has set up Government Food Science Training Centres in 10 districts including Kanpur. Therefore the city youths have an opportunity to develop skills in culinary activities.

This kind of institute offers specialised diploma courses in a range of culinary activities to stimulate employment within the hospitality sector.

Taliban to implement monarch-era Constitution in Afghanistan

28 Sep 2021; MEMO: The Taliban's acting justice minister vowed Tuesday to replace the Islamic Republic's Constitution with monarchy-era legislation from the 20th century, Anadolu Agency reported.

Abdul Hakim Sharaey made the announcement in a meeting with China's Ambassador to Kabul Wang Yu, according to a statement on the Facebook page of the Justice Ministry.

India: Sudden change in exam time keeps examinees guessing

Kanpur: Students appearing at second term examinations of a secondary school here on Wednesday were dazed to find the sudden change in the timing.

It was earlier informed that the time of the online examination will be fixed at exactly 11.20 a.m. but it started at 10.20 a.m. 

When a few students find this they even did not fail to inform those ignorant students who were sleeping.

What remained good for all the students of the class was that the subject teacher placated them by giving them full time if they were delayed in joining the classroom online.

India: 9 Cong workers held for assaulting BJP MP in UP

Pratapgarh (UP), Sep 29 (PTI) Nine Congress workers have been arrested for allegedly assaulting BJP's Pratapgarh MP Sangam Lal Gupta, police said on Wednesday.

Acting on a complaint by Gupta, his security officer and party workers, police had lodged five cases against Congress leader Pramod Tiwari, MLA Aradhana Misra and their supporters.

India: Court's power of contempt can't be taken away even by legislative enactment: SC

New Delhi, Sep 29 (PTI) Observing that the court's power of contempt can't be taken away even by a legislative enactment, the Supreme Court on Wednesday held the chairperson of an NGO guilty of contempt for not depositing Rs 25 lakh for "scandalising and browbeating" the court.

"We are of the view that the contemnor is clearly guilty of contempt of court and his action to scandalise the court cannot be countenanced," the top court said.

India: Petrol, diesel prices hiked; more to come

New Delhi, Sep 28 (PTI) Petrol price on Tuesday was hiked by 20 paise per litre and diesel by 25 paise as international oil prices neared USD 80 per barrel mark for the first time in three years.

The price of petrol was hiked to Rs 101.39 a litre in Delhi from Rs 101.19 and to Rs 107.47 per litre in Mumbai, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

Diesel rates went to Rs 89.57 a litre in Delhi and Rs 97.21 in Mumbai.

Prices differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes.

India: Kashmiri leader Mehbooba placed under house arrest again

Srinagar, Sep 29 (PTI) PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday claimed that she has been put under house arrest again as she had planned to visit Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The former chief minister had on Tuesday alleged that Army personnel had thrashed a family in Tral town of Pulwama and injured a female member. Mufti said she was going to meet the family on Wednesday.

India: 9-year-old girl raped in UP's Bareilly

Bareilly (UP) Sep 29 (PTI) A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl here, police said on Wednesday.

An FIR was registered against the accused based on a complaint by the minor's father at the Izzatnagar police station, they said.

According to the complaint, the man raped the girl in a drunken state at his home on Saturday, Senior Sub Inspector Swadesh Pal Singh said.

The incident came to light after the minor fell sick, he said.

India: Motorcyclist killed after striking stray cow on the road

Kota (Rajasthan) September 29 (PTI) A 55-year-old man was killed after his motorcycle accidentally hit a stray cow on a state highway in Rajasthan's Bundi district Wednesday, police said.

Raghunandan Modi, a resident of Kota city, was an Ayurvedic doctor at a government hospital in Gendoli town.

He was going to work around 7.30 am when the incident took place.

He fell, striking his head on the road and died on the spot, Gendoli Station House Officer (SHO) Budhram said.

India: UP govt's river ranching plan also covers Kanpur District

Kanpur: This district has been included among all the 12 districts where the Ganga Task Force takes the initiative of cleaning the river from nitrogen content. As many as 15 lakh fish of different varieties will be released every day into the stream of the river.

As the course of the river covers UP districts, the state government has made an effort.

We are making all-out efforts to clean the river and improve groundwater conservation. This endeavour is also a part of the plan, said Chief Secretary of Namami Gange.
