Police arrest man with 77 kg heroin in south Afghanistan

KABUL, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Afghan police have arrested a man with 77 kg heroin in south Afghanistan's Uruzgan province, Spokesman for the Interior Ministry Abdul Matin Qani said Sunday.

The counter-narcotics police have detained the man along with the drugs in Uruzgan province, three more drug smugglers in the eastern Khost province and another in Parwan province over the past 24 hours, Qani said.

Without providing more details, the spokesman added that the counter-narcotics police have also destroyed 200 acres of poppy in Paktika and Parwan provinces.

'Seeking a way forward': British diplomat meets Taliban officials in Afghanistan

07 July 2023; MEMO: The UK's top diplomat to Afghanistan, on Thursday, said that he met the Taliban officials in the capital, Kabul, and discussed various issues, including the rights of women and girls, Anadolu Agency reports.

Robert C Dickson, charge d'Affaires of the UK Mission in Afghanistan, said he visited Afghanistan's capital city and met with acting Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, and other senior officials.

India Defence Minister to call on Malaysian PM Anwar

NEW DELHI, July 8 (NNN-Bernama) — Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be in Malaysia for a two-day visit to boost bilateral defence links.

Singh will call on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and hold talks with Malaysian Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan during the visit starting on Monday, the Indian Defence Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

The Indian minister’s talks with his Malaysian counterpart seek to “review defence cooperation between the two countries and explore new initiatives” to further strengthen relations.

Police destroy drug lab in W. Afghanistan

HERAT, Afghanistan, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Police have destroyed a drug processing lab in west Afghanistan's Herat province, provincial police spokesman Abdullah Insaf said Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, police launched operations in the Gazara district, unearthed a drug processing lab along with objects used in manufacturing heroin, and smashed all on the spot, the official said.

No one was arrested, but efforts are underway to bring to justice anyone involved in running the drug lab, according to the official. 

Indian authorities arrest 3 railway officials over the train crash that killed more than 290 people

NEW DELHI (AP) — India’s federal crime agency said Friday it has arrested three railway officials in connection with one of the country’s deadliest train accidents, which killed more than 290 people last month.

The arrested men have been charged with culpable homicide without murder and destruction of evidence, the Central Bureau of Investigation said in a statement. It identified them as two signal engineers and one technician, and said the investigation is ongoing.

Indian court rejects Rahul Gandhi's plea to suspend defamation conviction

NEW DELHI, July 7 (Reuters) - An Indian high court rejected an appeal by opposition leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday to suspend his conviction in a defamation case, quashing for now his hope of returning to parliament and contesting national elections due next year.

Abhishek Singhvi, Gandhi's lawyer and spokesperson for his Congress party, called the judgment "legally wrong" and said he would soon appeal against it in the Supreme Court, the last option.

India: Soumya Pandey made Additional Labour Commissioner, Kanpur

Kanpur: In a recent reshuffle of the IAS officers by the State government, Soumya Pandey, Chief Development Officer, Kanpur Dehat, has been sent as Additional Labour Commissioner, Kanpur. 

While, Lakshmi NS has been made Chief Development Officer, Kanpur Dehat from Joint Magistrate, Kanpur.

The transfer of Balkrishna Tripathi, who was transferred to the post of Special Secretary, Secondary Education, has reportedly been cancelled.

He will continue to hold the post of Special Secretary in the Agriculture Production Commissioner branch, as reported.

Price Of Tomatoes Continues To Rise In India

NEW DELHI, Jul 5 (NNN-PTI) – The price of tomatoes continues to rise across India, even as the commodity was being sold at the rate of 155 Indian Rupees (1.89 U.S. dollars) per kg in the eastern state of West Bengal, the highest in the country, said media reports, today.

The commodity was available in the country at around 20 Indian Rupees (24 U.S. cents) per kg, till a couple of weeks ago.
