India: 9-year-old girl raped by teen in UP village

Fatehpur (UP), Nov 26 (PTI) A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped on Friday by a teenager in a village in Khaga area here, police said.

The girl, a student of class three, was allegedly raped by a 14-year-old boy -- a student of class nine, Circle officer Gayadutt Mishra said.

The accused has been detained by the police, he said.

The girl has been admitted to the hospital, where her condition was stated to be critical, he said.

A probe is on in the matter.

India: Tomato price rises to Rs 75 per kg in national capital

New Delhi, Nov 26 (PTI) Retail tomato price on Friday shot up to Rs 75 per kilogram in the national capital while the rates in some parts of South India softened but were still high, according to government data.

In Chennai, retail tomato price declined to Rs 63 per kg on Friday from the peak of Rs 100 per kg on November 22. Similarly, in Thiruvananthapuram, the price dropped to Rs 80 per kg from Rs 103 per kg in the said period, the data maintained by the Consumer Affairs Ministry showed.

India: Reserve Bank imposes Rs 1 cr penalty on State Bank of India

Mumbai, Nov 26 (PTI) Reserve Bank on Friday said it has imposed a penalty of Rs 1 crore on State Bank of India (SBI) for deficiencies in regulatory compliance.

The penalty has been imposed by an order dated November 16, 2021, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said in a statement.

According to the central bank, Statutory Inspections for Supervisory Evaluation (ISE) of SBI was conducted with reference to its financial positions as on March 31, 2018 and March 31, 2019.

India: Centre weakening constitutional institutions: Pilot

Jaipur, Nov 26 (PTI) In a dig at the Centre, former Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot on Friday said those sitting in power are weakening constitutional institutions.

He said everyone played a role in the establishment of institutions in the country in the past 70 years and it is the responsibility of all to maintain democracy.

"But, today there is an attempt to weaken the foundation of various types of institution by people sitting in power," Pilot said attacking the Centre.

Indian Air Force chief to embark on 5-day visit to Egypt

New Delhi, Nov 27 (PTI) Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari will pay a five-day visit to Egypt beginning Sunday which is expected to bolster ties between the two countries.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) said he is visiting the country to attend the Egypt Air Power Symposium and Egyptian Defence Exposition (EDEX) which will take place in Cairo from November 28 to December 2.

India: Farmers descend at Delhi-UP border on protest anniversary

Ghaziabad, Nov 26 (PTI) Hundreds of farmers in tractors started arriving at Ghazipur on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border as Friday marked one year of the ongoing farmers' protest against the central laws.

Many of them brought along vegetables, sacks of flour and lentils, spices and cooking oil on their tractor-trollies, saying they have come prepared for a long haul.

Afghanistan: Kabul says to resume Taliban-U.S. talks in Doha

KABUL, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Spokesman for the Taliban-led administration Zabihullah Mujahid has said talks between Taliban and the United States would resume in Qatar's capital Doha.

"The officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan would resume talks and continue the talks with U.S. representatives in line with the Doha agreement and the talks could be helpful," the state-run news agency Bakhtar quoted Mujahid as saying.

The talks would help renew commitments, remove concerns and efforts would continue for the release of Afghanistan's frozen money, said Mujahid.

India: 66 medical students test Covid-19 positive in Karnataka

Dharwad (Karn), Nov 25 (PTI) Two hostels of SDM College of Medical Sciences and Hospital here have been sealed, with 66 medical students studying there having tested positive for COVID-19, officials said on Thursday.

About 300 out of the total 400 students studying in the medical college have undergone COVID tests so far.

According to officials, a students' event almost a week ago might have resulted in the spread, as they advised people to avoid attending programmes like marriage, functions, and cultural gatherings.

India: NFHS survey finds more women than men in the country

New Delhi, Nov 25 (PTI) Indicating a demographic shift, the number of women surpassed men for the first time in India with the sex ratio being 1,020: 1,000, according to findings of the National Family and Health Survey-5.

"With this, we can say India moves in the league of the developed countries - as the sex ratio crosses 1000," a health ministry official said, attributing it to measures taken for women empowerment such as financial inclusion and for combating gender bias and disparities.
