India: PM Modi transfers Rs 1,000 cr to bank accounts of SHGs

Prayagraj (UP), Dec 21 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday at a programme here transferred Rs 1,000 crore to bank accounts of self help groups (SHGs) to benefit around 16 lakh women.

The amount was transferred under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM).

The mission aims to provide women, especially those at the grassroots, with necessary skills, incentives and resources.

India: Auto driver held for raping 11-year-old SC girl in Kota

Kota, Dec 21 (PTI) A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl belonging to Scheduled Caste in Dadwada area of the city, police said.

Accused auto driver Mithun Mali was arrested under various sections of the IPC, POCSO act and the SC/ST Act, Bhimganj Mandi police station SHO Laxmichand Verma said Tuesday

India: City bus & tempo fare remains same from Jajmau to Circuit House

Kanpur: Commuters are at odds to know the fare of the roadways city bus and the tempo remains the same for the distance from Jajmau Nai Chungi to Circuit House. in Cantonment area here.

Only upto a distance of three Kms, the state transport bus charges a sum of 5-rupee  and the fare increases after that.

Several commuters point out that the parity in the fare compels them to board tempo.

If the government fixes the similar fare the chance of carrying more passengers will not be possible for the roadways buses.

Pakistani PM calls for int'l aid to Afghanistan to avoid crisis

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said here on Sunday that if the world does not come to the help of Afghanistan, it will unfold a big man-made crisis.

India appoints Pradeep Kumar Rawat as envoy to China

NEW DELHI, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Indian government Monday appointed Pradeep Kumar Rawat, now the ambassador to the Netherlands, as the next ambassador of India to China.

Rawat is expected to take up the assignment shortly, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

"Shri Pradeep Kumar Rawat presently ambassador of India to the Kingdom of the Netherlands has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the People's Republic of China," reads a ministry statement .

OIC pledges to help free Afghanistan's frozen assets

20 Dec 2021; MEMO: The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) yesterday pledged to coordinate with the United Nations as part of efforts to free hundreds of millions of US dollars in frozen Afghan assets, to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in the country.

The 57-member OIC delegates said, during an emergency meeting held in Pakistan, they would work "to unlock the financial and banking channels to resume liquidity and flow of financial and humanitarian assistance."

India: New destroyer of Indian Navy kicks off sea trials

New Delhi, Dec 19 (PTI) The sea trials of the Indian Navy's indigenously built stealth destroyer, Mormugao, began in the Arabian Sea on Sunday.

The maiden sea voyage of the warship, built under the project P-15B, coincides with the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Goa from Portuguese rule.

Mormugao is the second indigenous stealth destroyer to be built under project P-15B and it is planned to be commissioned in mid-2022.

India: Reconvert and pray in temples: Hindutva outfits to Muslims

Gurugram, Dec 19 (PTI) A right-wing group disrupting Friday namaz being held in the open here on Sunday asked Muslims to "reconvert" and pray in Hindu temples.

Ancestors of a majority of Haryana Muslims belonged to Hindu community, said Mahaveer Bhardwaj, chairman of the Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, a body of 32 right-wing Hindu outfits.

"We can organise a mass 'ghar wapsi' in Leisure Valley here and they will be taken back in their castes and accepted with open arms," Bharadwaj said.

India: Hindus believe every person's DNA is unique: Rahul

New Delhi, Dec 19 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said those who have belief in Hindutva feel all Indians have the same DNA but those who are Hindus believe every persons has a unique DNA.

The Congress leader's remark has come after RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said the DNA of all Indians is the same for 40,000 years.

"Hindus believe that every person's DNA is different and unique. Those who have belief in Hindutva believe that all Indians have the same DNA,"Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.

India: Election Laws (Amendment) Bill introduced in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, Dec 20 (PTI) A bill to link electoral rolls with the Aadhaar ecosystem to weed out duplication was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday.

Introducing The Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said the legislation will end bogus voting in the country and make the electoral process more credible.

The bill seeks to allow electoral registration officers seek the Aadhaar number of people who want to register as voters "for the purpose of establishing the identity".
