India: Man held in rape case in Raj

Jaipur, Jan 21 (PTI) A man was arrested on Friday in connection with the gangrape of a 25-year-old tribal married woman in Rajasthan's Udaipur district, police said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Jitendra Singh said the search is on for two others involved in the gangrape.

Key accused Mohan Pargi (22) was arrested on Friday, he said.

Police said the tribal woman was going to her home on Thursday when the bike-borne accused stopped her.

The woman was taken to a deserted place and then raped.

Pakistan Records Highest Number Of Daily COVID-19 Cases

ISLAMABAD, Jan 21 (NNN-APP) – Pakistan reported 7,678 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the highest number of fresh cases in a day, since the pandemic started in the country in 2020, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said today.

The overall tally of the infected people climbed to 1,353,479 across the country, said the NCOC, the department leading Pakistan’s campaign against the pandemic.

Government failures led to Pakistan tourist snow storm deaths, report says

LAHORE, Pakistan, Jan 21 (Reuters) - The deaths of 23 tourists in their cars during a blizzard in Pakistan earlier this month were caused by government failures including delays in moving snow ploughs and a lack of warnings to people that harsh weather was coming, an inquiry has found.

The tourists were stranded in the hill resort of Murree, 64 km (40 miles) northeast of the capital Islamabad, where thousands of families had flocked to enjoy the snow. 

India: SC to consider hearing plea seeking food, welfare measures for migrant workers during third COVID wave

New Delhi, Jan 19 (PTI) The Supreme Court Wednesday said it would consider listing for hearing the fresh plea of activists seeking implementation of an earlier order on ensuring food security and other welfare measures for migrant workers who are again in distress in the third COVID-19 wave triggered by omicron variant and consequential curbs imposed in parts of country.

India: Man gets 10-year jail in rape case in Haryana

Gurugram, Jan 20 (PTI) A court here sent a man to 10-year jail and imposed a fine of Rs 55,000 on him in a rape case.

He will have to undergo additional imprisonment of two years if he fails to pay the fine on time.

Jaiveer Singh, a resident of Haliyaki village in Pataudi area, had raped the woman in 2020.

The woman, a native of Uttar Pradesh, had complained to police that Jaiveer first met her in Rewari, where she had gone to meet her friend.

Later, he proposed the woman for marriage.

India: BJP MLA booked for model code violation in Sambhal

Sambhal (UP), Jan 21 (PTI) A case has been registered against the BJP candidate from Asmoli assembly seat here for violation of model code of conduct and COVID-19 guidelines, a senior police official said on Friday.

On Thursday evening, the BJP candidate and Asmoli assembly constituency MLA Harendra Singh Rinku was holding an election meeting in Chaupa village in which a large number of people had gathered without masks violating social distancing, Police Superintendent Chakresh Mishra said.

India: Channi to file defamation case against Delhi Kejriwal

Chandigarh, Jan 21 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Friday said he would file a defamation case against AAP leader Arvind Kejirwal, who has dubbed him as a dishonest man after the ED carried out raids at many places including at the premises of the Congress leader's nephew.

Channi alleged that Kejriwal was in the habit of levelling accusations to malign the image of others and that in the past it was seen how he had to later apologise to BJP leaders Nitin Gadkari, late Arun Jaitley and SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia.

Indian Army seeks assistance from PLA to locate and return missing youth

New Delhi, Jan 20 (PTI) The Indian Army has sought assistance of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) to locate missing boy Miram Taron on their side and return him as per established protocol, sources in defence establishment said on Thursday.

Arunachal Pradesh's MP Tapir Gao said on Wednesday that PLA on Tuesday abducted a 17-year-old boy from inside the Indian territory in state's Upper Siang district.

India: Security enhanced at BJP office in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Jan 19 (PTI): Security at the Telangana state BJP office here was beefed up ahead of the Republic Day and following security alert from the Intelligence agencies, official sources said on Wednesday.

Additional police personnel were deployed at the state BJP office in view of the Republic Day and the party officials were also asked to remain vigilant of strangers entering the building premises, a police official said.
