India: Feud over land causes old man's death in Kanpur

Kanpur: An old man was allegedly beaten to death over a land dispute in Kanpur's Dharamshala Baranda village on Sunday, police said.

Police have detained two persons for query and further investigation is underway, an official said.

According to police, the incident took place at night after a fight broke out between neighbours in the village under Bilhaur police station, Kanpur Outer.

An FIR has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, based on a complaint filed by the victim's relatives.

Pakistan: Police Arrest Four Terrorists In Lahore

ISLAMABAD, Feb 27 (NNN-APP) – The Police in Pakistan’s east Punjab province, arrested four terrorists in separate operations in the provincial city of Lahore yesterday, police sources said.

The counter-terrorism department of the province’s police, launched the operations by acting on intelligence, regarding the presence of high-profile terrorists in their sleeper cells in the city, the sources said.

The terrorists were arrested from their hideouts, and arms and ammunition were also seized, said the sources.

Afghanistan Launches Clearance Operations To Ensure Security

KABUL, Feb 27 (NNN-ANA) – The security agencies of Afghanistan have launched clearance operations, in the capital city of Kabul and surrounding provinces, as the latest preventive measures to ensure a high level of security, the government said yesterday.

The clearance operations were launched Friday, by the ministries of interior and defence, as well as, the national intelligence agency, the government said, in a statement.

India": IIT Kanpur methodology foresees the fourth wave of Covid in June

Kanpur: The IIT Kanpur researchers have said that fourth wave of COVID may strike in June. Earlier, they had made prediction for third wave and it was near accurate with slight deviation in dates.

In order to make the prediction for the fourth wave of COVID in India, the researchers, Sabara Parshad Rajeshbhai, Subhra Sankar Dhar and Shalabh of the department of mathematics and statistics of IIT Kanpur, have used a statistical model for their prediction.

This methodology can also be used to forecast COVID waves in other countries as well, they said.

India: CRPF Jawan's wife murdered in UP's Kanpur, three arrested

Kanpur: The wife of a CRPF jawan was found murdered near a drain in Bhaupur Maitha, said Kanpur police on Saturday. She was reported to be missing for five days.

The victim's lover, along with two others, has been arrested after he admitted to the killing over suspicion of her having another relationship with a different man, the police added.

Three persons were arrested in connection with the murder.

One Mukhtar has been identified as the main accused and lover of the victim.

India: Send Adityanath back to his mutt: Mayawati to voters

Gorakhpur, Feb 26 (PTI) Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Saturday asked voters to send UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to his mutt, alleging that he nurses grudge against the Muslims and ignored the poor due to his "casteist narrow-mindedness".

"Send Yogiji back to his mutt, to his family. He had made big promises but the implementation was negligible. Due to his casteist narrow-mindedness, he ignored the development of the SC/ST community and extremely backward people," the former UP CM alleged.

India: Wushu player Sadia Tariq wins gold at Moscow tournament

New Delhi, Feb 26 (PTI) Indian wushu player Sadia Tariq has won a gold medal at a junior tournament being held in Moscow.

The 15-year-old from Srinagar has been a gold medallist in the junior national championship for the last two years. She won the top honours in the Russian capital on Friday.

"Congratulations to Sadia Tariq on winning the Gold medal at the Moscow Wushu Stars Championship," tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulating the youngster.

India: UP elections; SP candidate's convoy attacked

Pratapgarh (UP), Feb 27 (PTI) Samajwadi Party candidate Gulshan Yadav's convoy was attacked by some people in Kunda area of the district on Sunday, police said.

Yadav's supporters claimed that he sustained minor injuries in the incident and some vehicles were damaged.

Yadav is contesting from Kunda as a SP candidate against Jansatta Dal candidate Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya.

Circle officer, Kunda, Ajit Kumar said some persons attacked Yadav's convoy when it reached Pahadpur Banohi polling centre, damaging some vehicles.

India: Yogi govt has added 40 pc to UP's debt: Chidambaram

Lucknow, Feb 27 (PTI) Asking the people to think about what they are voting for, Congress leader P Chidambaram on Sunday said that the Yogi Adityanath model of government has made the state poorer and has added 40 per cent to the state's debt.

Batting for his party, Chidambaram said that the Congress' slogan Ladki Hoon Lad Sakti Hoon' has added a new dimension to the goal of gender equality in elections.

India: University chancellor shot at in UP

Bareilly (UP), Feb 27 (PTI) Chancellor of Bareilly International University Dr Keshav Kumar Agarwal was shot at by two bike-borne men in Baradari area, police said on Sunday.

Dr Agarwal, a renowned surgeon, was returning from a temple on Saturday night when the two men opened fire at him near Ekta crossing, they said.

The bullet hit his jaw. He is undergoing treatment, the police said.

Senior superintendent of police Rohit Singh Sajwan said attempts are on to nab those involved in the attack.
