Taliban assert neutrality, call for restraint between Russia, Ukraine

25 Feb 2022; MEMO: The Taliban-led interim government in Afghanistan, on Friday, called for restraint amid Russia's intervention in Ukraine, stressing that Kabul's foreign policy is that of "neutrality", Anadolu News Agency reports.

"All sides need to desist from taking positions that could intensify violence," said Abdul Qahar Balkhi, spokesperson for the Afghan Foreign Ministry.

Air India plane lands in Bucharest to evacuate Indians stranded in Ukraine

New Delhi, Feb 26 (PTI) An Air India plane from Mumbai landed in the Romanian capital Bucharest on Saturday morning to evacuate Indians stranded in Ukraine due to the Russian military offensive.

The aircraft, AI1943, took off from the Mumbai airport around 3.40 AM (Indian Standard Time) and landed at the Bucharest airport around 10.45 AM (Indian Standard Time), senior government officials said.

India: PM Modi pays tributes to Savarkar on death anniversary

New Delhi, Feb 26 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tributes to Hindutva icon 'Veer' Savarkar on his death anniversary.

In a tweet, Modi hailed him as a great freedom fighter who, he said, was an epitome of sacrifice and resolve.

His life dedicated to serving the motherland will always be a source of inspiration for the countrymen, the prime minister said.

A foremost proponent of the Hindutva ideology, Savarkar died in 1966.

India: Nanoparticles useful for protecting crop from infection concernns

Kanpur: IIT Kanpur has improved several solutions to heighten crop output and also addressed many of the issues facing the agriculture sector. 

It has now developed a bio-degradable nanoparticle that can be used as an option to chemical-based pesticides to safeguard crops from bacterial and fungal infections.

The nanoparticle, better known as Biodegradable Carbonoid Metabolite can remain active at low concentrations and be as effective as pesticides. It is said to be having no adverse effect on soil or consumer health.

Sri Lankan PM Demands Completion Of Housing Projects For Low-Income Groups By 2024

COLOMBO, Feb 25 (NNN-XINHUA) – Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa, yesterday, instructed officials of the ministry of urban development and housing, to complete the country’s all housing projects for low-income families by 2024.

At a meeting, the prime minister also instructed officials to implement urban development projects, in accordance with the national action plan.

Additional Secretary to the ministry, Dr. M.M.S.B. Yalegama, said that, it is planned 50,000 houses will be built for low-income families by 2024.

Indian Rupee plummets 102 paise to close at 75.63/USD

Forex traders said sustained foreign fund outflows, heavy selling in domestic equities and elevated crude oil prices weighed on investor sentiment.

India: Gadkari promises US-like roads in MP in five years

Ujjain, Feb 24 (PTI) Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday assured that roads in Madhya Pradesh would be like those in the United States in the next five years.

Airbuses can also be introduced to ferry devotees to the famous Mahakal temple here, he said.

The roads of MP would be like those in the US in the next five years, the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister said here.
