India: Nanoparticles useful for protecting crop from infection concernns

 IIT Kanpur

Kanpur: IIT Kanpur has improved several solutions to heighten crop output and also addressed many of the issues facing the agriculture sector.

It has now developed a bio-degradable nanoparticle that can be used as an option to chemical-based pesticides to safeguard crops from bacterial and fungal infections.

The nanoparticle, better known as Biodegradable Carbonoid Metabolite can remain active at low concentrations and be as effective as pesticides. It is said to be having no adverse effect on soil or consumer health.

Abhay Karandikar, Director, IIT, said that  "Because farmers face a variety of challenges, we have worked tirelessly to improve the farming eco-system as a whole. Nanoparticles would reduce crop infection concerns while increasing crop yield."
