India: Mamata condemns 'attack' on Sharad Pawar's residence

Kolkata, Apr 9 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday condemned an "attack" on the residence of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar.

Over 100 striking employees of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) staged a sudden and angry protest outside Pawar's residence in Mumbai on Friday afternoon when he was home, alleging he has not done anything to resolve their issues.

India: Two arrested for robbing Italian Embassy counsellor

New Delhi, Apr 9 (PTI) Two people were arrested for allegedly robbing the handbag of a 54-year-old counsellor working at the Italian Embassy here, police said on Saturday.

On April 2, the counsellor, a Noida resident, lodged a complaint at the Lodhi Colony police station about the robbery that had taken place on the Barapulla flyover on March 30, a senior officer said.

Sitapur (UP), Apr 9 (PTI) A Uttar Pradesh seer, who allegedly delivered a hate speech against a community and made a rape threat, has been booked, police here said on Saturday.

Bajrang Muni Das, the mahant of the Maharshi Shri Lakshman Das Udasin Ashram in Khairabad town, allegedly made the speech and threat on April 2 and the video of it surfaced on social media platforms on Thursday.

India: Officials responsible for thefts in Kanpur bank lockers, say police

Kanpur: The Commissionerate Police revealed that bank officials are reportedly behind the numerous thefts from the lockers of the Central Bank of India here.

An estimated Rs 3 crore worth of jewellery was reported to be missing from the safe lockers.

The police have taken 4 people including a branch manager, into custody.

The police started an investigation after nine customers of the Central Bank of India, Karachi Khana branch in Kanpur filed an FIR.

Kanpur: The heat wave is going to increase further in the coming days. Today's weather records at maximum temperature of 42° Celsius. The real feel goes even at 47 degrees Celsius after 3.30 p.m.

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert regarding this.

According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in Kanpur on Friday was 17.6 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature was 40.5 degrees Celsius.

At the same time, till April 12, the effect of heat waves will be seen.

President stresses enhanced Pak-Somalia ties in trade

Imran Khan vows not to let “imported govt” be imposed on Pakistan

India: Delhi cab, auto drivers stage protest against rising CNG prices

New Delhi, Apr 8 (PTI) Opposing the steep hike in CNG prices, hundreds of cab and auto drivers staged a protest at Jantar Mantar on Friday and demanded revision of fares even as they threatened to go on a strike if their demands were not met.

President of 'Sarvodaya Drivers Welfare Association' Ravi Rathor said that the government should either slash CNG prices or revise fares.

Hindi is not India's national language, will never let it happen: Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru, Apr 8 (PTI) Asserting that Hindi is not India's national language, former Karnataka chief minister and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Friday accused the ruling BJP of trying to unleash its agenda of "cultural terrorism" against non-Hindi speaking states.

Taking offence to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's comment regarding the official language, the Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka assembly accused him of betraying the former's home state Gujarat and mother-tongue Gujarati for Hindi, for his political agenda.
